Default Warning: Corvette related post!

To any that have owned a C6 generation Z06….

I test drove one today. It was a 2007 model. Lemans Blue(my personal favorite). 2 owners. Loved in the southeast for its whole life according to carfax. Has had a reputable mechanic check the heads. Has all the bells and whistles the Z06 offered at the time. Factory stock sans the Michelin tires. 71,000 miles. $35,000.

I currently own a 2017 Camaro SS with the 2SS package. Manual transmission. 15,700 miles. NADA values it around $42k.

I won’t get into the financial specifics…but if one were to see this trade at face value…car for car…which one would you choose?

I will reveal my opinion of the Z06 momentarily.

You can find one with less miles for less $$$. You can also buy one in good shape with more miles for a LOT less.

Is this thing in pristine condition? How's the clutch wear? Paint? Shocks/struts...it's about time for those to get replaced.

ZO6 is my fav. C5. Especially the Le Mans edition.

Paint/wheels were in spectacular shape. Interior as well. I realize there’s others out there…but without traveling far to get it, this is an OK deal on the Vette considering it’s condition. The clutch feels like a 70k mile clutch. Suspension parts…the car rode very good. I was actually impressed with it.

If I were to make the jump, I’d only do it for a Z06 or ZR1…but the ZR1 is well out of my fun budget.

Are you trading the Camaro for the Vette? I wouldn't do that without some cash. You have a low mileage car that is equal or better in perf. I had to rent one earlier in the year. It was a beast and fun to drive. I was really surprised by it.

I am seriously contemplating it. Reason is that the Vette was my first love. I know…bad reason. If it were any other color, it wouldn’t even be on the table for discussion. If it were newer with less miles for similar money…it would be no question…and it would be in the garage tonight.

That vette is still coming up on the age and mileage where you are going to have to start dumping money into it. The starters tend to go out easily since they are so close to the passenger side down tube and you bascialy have to drop the exhaust to change it out. Tis a very much big pain in the ass.... kinda like some of the posters here on this forum.

Don't do it. If you really want one. Sell the Camaro outright. Then, go shopping. They made tons of them. Plenty out there for sale and will always be.

Ha! Maintenance items aside(I can turn my own wrenches and I do have access to a lift)…overall a good car/platform to build off of? My gut says yes due to my following the corvettes from the early C5 era. The camaro is a fantastic car. I do love it…and all of the creature comforts have grown on me. The Z doesn’t have the newest tech…and that’s ok. I think.

I changed a lot of stuff out on a lift when I had mine. It's still easier said than done. Honestly, I would pass. You can find newer models of the C67 for less.

If you will never track the car, it might be a good buy. However, in 2010 they increased the dry sump to 10.5 quarts because of oil starvation.

Plus make sure it has had the top end rebuilt so it won't drop a valve.

This is very true. Thanks for the info man!

The clutch is the one part that worried me. That’s a pretty involved job in these cars. However, it’s doable since I do have access to a lift.

My hang up is the model year difference versus what I currently have. Plus, it didn’t “feel” significantly faster than my car…and it disappointed me to be quite honest. However, with less weight, it was much more nimble…as expected.

Not a track kind of guy. If I get that urge, there’s a really awesome karting track local to me. Way cheaper than eating a wall when I run outta talent!

That would HAVE to be a car + cash for your Camaro deal.

It would be. Otherwise it’s not even worth looking at.

Where's @UniqueDoug when you need him to explain why there's not enough miles on that car"
