Thankfully my Son[34] is very respectful and responsible! I have alwahys gotten compliments on him ever since he was little and up thru now how polite and respectful he is to other people, especially to older adults!
Most all his friends act the same way as well!

I dunno, to me it doesn't seem that much different today than it did 40-some years ago when I was a teenager and had seen plenty of different types. I was raised to be polite and respectful, as were all of my friends. But I also observed plenty of kids who were terrible. I remember one family where both teenaged sons would often tell their dad to get ****ed in front of everyone. And it wasn't some big argument, it was normal conversation. There were no repercussions. Ever. And that was by no means the only family I ever saw where it was like this.

All of my friends have raised their kids right and they are as polite and trouble free as any generation has been.

One of the reasons I disliked shows like the Simpsons, even though I was virtually alone in that camp.

They show kids talking smack to their parents and in the following years that trend continued in many movies; the precocious child that knows better than any adult.

All appears cute on the outside until the results rear their ugly heads.

One of the reasons we don't watch tv and are very picky with what movies/cartoons our kids watch.
We also expect them to address adults with "Mr. or Mrs."

I think that this can be handled pretty easily. From very early on, I told my kids "Children aren't stupid, they are inexperienced". I think that set the tone all the way through their growing up years. I never presented myself as "smarter" than they were, and it's a good thing too, because I am sure they are both way smarter than I. They talk to me when they need "life guidance", and never bothered me much with homework struggles.

You have to decide early on whether your kid is going to need a college fund or a bail fund. We had one of each.

One of each kid. They are both in their late 40s now and doing well. I didn't actually raise them, they were grown and had moved out when I met my wife 30 years ago. I can tell you this, anyone who thinks a kid is only an 18 year responsibility has never had one.
