Zimmerman Gets his Stand your Ground Hearing!

If(when) he wins, all charges will be dropped and he will receive full immunity from civil charges.

George Zimmerman, accused in the shooting death of Florida teen Trayvon Martin, could be cleared of a second-degree murder charge if a judge rules in his favor in a new "Stand Your Ground" hearing.

Zimmerman's defense attorney Mark O'Mara announced on his website Thursday that there will be a "Stand Your Ground" hearing based on his client's claim he shot the unarmed teen in self-defense. A finding in Zimmerman's favor would end the criminal case against him, as well as immunizing him from civil action.

"Now that the State has released the majority of their discovery, the defense asserts that there is clear support for a strong claim of self-defense. Consistent with this claim of self-defense, there will be a 'Stand Your Ground' hearing," said O'Mara in a statement.

The law allows people to use deadly force, rather than retreat, if they believe their lives are in danger.

O'Mara described the hearing as a "mini-trial," with arguments, witnesses, experts and evidence that would be included in a criminal trial, but without a jury.

Zimmerman, 28, has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder. He is free on $1 million bond as he awaits trial. Zimmerman wasn't charged until 44 days after Martin's death, and in those weeks protesters accused the Sanford police department of being racist and botching the investigation.

Zimmermans attorney has withdrawn his request for the Stand your Ground hearing, and will seek a more traditional Self Defense, defense at the Murder 2 trial.

It's well known that I'm a Freemason and one thing we require is to have respect for the rule of law. I hope everyone else does when the verdict comes out no matter who the ruling is in favor of.

Granted, I do hope Zim has all charges dropped as I, the arm chair warrior, would have dropped TM in that situation based on what I know about it.

I believe the evidence points to Stand Your Ground, but I also believe he made it difficult to prove with his actions before, and some of his actions since have been a little odd.

This one is going to be a mess either way.

At least his story has been consistent the whole time. I'd have a shit ton of doubts if if changed after every interview.

I think he has a good case especially against spike lee since he wasn't a public figure before the news story broke. Spike tweeted his addy in hopes that people would show up to cause problems and they did.

When all is said and done, this is one time where i believe a lot of lawsuits should be filed. Go after Jackson and Sharpton too... especially Sharpton for stirring the shit when he knew nothing about the case but had to be and expert on MSNBC.
