Wink Opps; another promise kept.

Wow, I can really get use to not being lied to.

NATO Takes Over Libya Air Operations

Quote:
NATO has assumed full command of all air operations over Libya, taking over from the U.S., which had played a leading role since international forces began enforcing a no-fly zone on March 19.

NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said the transition was completed early Thursday. The NATO operation, called "Unified Protector", includes enforcing the U.N. Security Council resolution that mandates the no-fly zone along with an arms embargo and airstrikes to protect civilians.

Meanwhile, U.S. media reports say the CIA has sent teams of operatives into Libya to gather intelligence and make contact with anti-Gadhafi forces. The reports cite officials as saying intelligence agents are looking into the identities and abilities of rebel forces before foreign allies consider providing them with direct military aid.

British sources told The New York Times that British special forces and intelligence officers also are in the North African nation.

In Washington, the White House repeated that the U.S. has not made a decision on whether to provide arms to rebel forces in Libya. Wednesday's statement was issued amid reports that President Barack Obama has approved a secret authorization for covert efforts to support anti-government rebels.

Earlier Wednesday, troops loyal to Gadhafi drove anti-government rebels from key coastal cities they had seized days before, reversing opposition gains made since international airstrikes began.

Libyan rebels retreated amid intense fighting around the strategic oil towns of Ras Lanuf and Brega. Many opposition fighters fell back to the city of Ajdabiya, from where residents were seen fleeing along the road toward the opposition stronghold of Benghazi.

Pro-Gadhafi forces were shelling Brega and a rebel military spokesman said he expected the loyalists to enter the city by Wednesday night.

The spokesman Colonel Ahmad Bani also said as many as 3,600 heavily armed members of the Chadian Republican Guard are now fighting alongside Gadhafi loyalists. He dismissed concerns that members of al-Qaida are fighting with the Libyan rebels.

You do realize that the two U.S. generals in charge simply swapped their American hats for their NATO hats?

Basically nothing has changed, except titles. Which I suppose is a good thing. We continue to run the show, but can say "NATO" a lot and deflect heat.

And lets not forget that NATO is run by committee VS the American military that is run by Chain of command.

In NATO all 28 partners MUST approve an operation or none can be started.

Targets, operations and all forms of logistical support must be by consensus VS orders.

For me Personally the only reason America shod be active in Lydia is to Kill or Capture Qaddafi due to the new evidence that he directly ordered the murder of 270 Americans on Pan Am 109.

Any other reason for us being in Libya is not relevant to American interests.

I know this is a concept beyond the Republicans, but not everything needs to be a battle/war. The skip out on the cost and bitch about deficits later.

Welcome to Reality

Here's a challenge for you chas: What is different about Libya and virtually every other US military engagement in the past 30 years?

It has been proven from the beginning of warfare that the only way to "win" a war is with troops on the ground. When there are troops on the ground, lives will be lost. Strategic air strikes can only take you so far...

With what we have going on in Lybia, time to do the same in Syria, Iran and as I recall a few other mid-east nations striking against the leadership, not just Lybia, lets just drop smart bombs everywhere the oppression is going on in the middle east

Waiting for someone who has only said NO for the last 26 months is stupid, therefore Fork-em. You want to be the boss; win a Presidental Election or STFU.

That's called diplomacy, which seems to be something we skipped over in our rush to set up a no-fly zone along with using targeted bombings.

Either which way, I hate to see us get dragged into another fight for people who won't greet us as saviors, etc. and will likely still hate us when it's all said and done.

sad the oba wasn't quick to help the protesters longing for democracy in Iran, he sat by and watched them get slaughtered and backed the government of Iran. Yet, here, he choses to back known terrorists that fight against us and train terrorist to kill us.

kinda weird isn't it

I'm just glad he'll be gone next year and the dims won't control the senate and we have the house locked up for the next 10 years
