Holy shit...I typed in a few things to an AI tool and it wrote this...
I asked to write me a blues song using the song style of Charles Bradley but include corvettes, reverse racism, and the internet as themes. That is exactly what Charles Bradley would have sung. Quote:

Edit: just listened to that video. Woof, what a mess. One would think those guitarists, arguably the greatest of all time would have enough sense to STOP ****ING PLAYING when they aren’t up. Jebus. If I did that, I’d never play in this town again. If anybody on my stage does that, they won’t play with me again either. I did a clinic breaking down BB Kings style years ago. He is a great example of someone with limited formal knowledge but incredible feel and phrasing. Plus he sings and plays with every fiber of his being 100% of the time. If you study what he is playing you will see that he literally plays the same riffs all the time. But it’s his vibrato, his subtle bends, his stage presence, his smile - it’s the entire package. He is so inspiring especially for those of us who can’t play at super sonic speed. He never plays too much or too little. Only exactly what the song requires. No more, no less. He also never plays and sings at the same time. Like NEVER. He also kicked me out of one of his shows. So I got that going for me. |

I have my dad's 78 RPM Louis Jordan and his Tympany Five. Great stuff then, and still great. I can't come up with original music but can come up with clever lyrics. Aerovette is even better at it. I can do okay cartoon caricatures of people.
Post the music and we'll give you the lyrics, gratis. It's what we do around here. |

Louis Jordan defined the era. He was a wild dude. Drunken fool but genius writer, performer and style master. I wish the younger generation knew and appreciated these guys. There would be no Led Zeplin or Beatles or Hendrix without them. |

You aren't joking. Buddy Guy is another that does the same thing. I saw him live in a small venue and he captivates the audience the moment he steps out onto the stage. Walking through the audience while playing a solo, stopping to shake hands (still playing), with a 1,000 watt smile on his face the whole time. Edited to add: Saw B. B. live at the same venue but it was towards the end of his career. He played while sitting on a stool and only did about 20 minutes, but it was an experience seeing him live and I'm glad to have had the opportunity. |

I've always wondered if he has more than one "Lucille". Many artists like that have a duplicate guitar that they tour with as the original is just too valuable to risk damage or theft. |

Saw Lionel Hampton near the end of his career in a small venue and he was excellent and his band even better. Super tight. Saw John Lee Hooker at the Paramount in Oakland with Ruth Brown and Charlie Musselwhite and it was outstanding. Saw Tony Joe White in a restaurant setting in Nicasio, CA about 15 years ago and he brought the house down, and the one that I really messed up on: Paul Butterfield playing in a Chinese Restaurant in Berkeley CA to all 4 of us customers. And I had NO idea who he was. My buddy said "let's go see Paul Butterfield" and I said, ok. After he died shortly after I realized who he was. At the time, I thought "wow, this guy is REALLY good. I wonder why he's not more popular?" Super humble and nice guy, too. Back to topic...

Well there is no music called “jive”. You might be thinking of a classic jump song called Jumpin Jive. It was also a popular slang term for swing music.
I described the style in a previous post. Defining characteristics would be swing beat, horns, walking eighth note bass, combination of blues (12 bar) and jazz progressions (6,2,5 or 3,6,2,5), heavy reliance on dominant seven and ninth chords with release dates between 1945-1952. Heavy on sax as a solo instrument. |

I always wished he would have jumped up on stage but he is sort of above that. He sees it as his business. Serious guy. |

We played at Summerfest in Milwaukee about 12 consecutive years. Usually the Miller Stage or the Harley Davidson Stage. Charlie Musselwhite was headlining one of the days we were performing. It was over a hundred degrees - even hotter on stage. He got there early in his tour bus and parked right behind the stage. We got a shitty trailer with broken AC. As we sat there bitching and sweating waiting for our slot, he poked his head in the door and said “Holy shit you guys! Is the AC out?” We nodded and he said “**** that, come up in my bus…” We smoked weed and drank until our show with Charlie and his band, then staggered out to play our show, then back in the bus for another few hours until Charlie’s show. He drank us under the table. I don’t even remember his show. What a kind and generous guy. We were just the local yokels and generally got treated like the hired help. The money sucked but we played to huge crowds and got to meet all of our heroes who were playing at the same stages. Robert Cray, Delbert McClinton, Gatemouth Brown, Junior Brown, Albert Collins, John Hammond Jr. What a time to be alive. The trick was that we knew the stage managers really well so we could literally go any night and just breeze backstage. We had prove parking and free admission even to the huge shows like a Lyle Lovett and Bonnie Raitt, SRV, ZZ Top - Lots of perks besides the crappy money. We made five times more in clubs. |
