Nissan Introduces Cummins powered Fullsize Titan XD...
Hmmm....Nissan needs to stick to cars, same with Toyota, leave trucks to the companies that know WTF they are doing when it comes to building a vehicle around a trailer hitch and an engine...

Yep. Great story behind that motor too. Dodge and Cummins decided to design a light truck V8 diesel, since that's where the market seemed to be going. After three years and a lot of dineros, the V8 couldn't even equal the existing inline 6's power, and got 20% lower fuel mileage to add insult to injury. Dodge (nee- Ram) pulled the plug on the project, leaving Cummins wih a motor and no players.
Guess which motor Nissan (and Toyota) are going to put into their pickups? Two guesses, first one doesn't count. |

I like Toyota trucks. I've had a few and would own another. The next gen Tacoma looks good.

But...the 7.3 Powerstroke came out in 94...and Dodge started really pouring the coal on the 12v cummins 6BT.....GM was left standing there...wondering WTF to do...but they maintained the course...got in with Isuzu for the 6.6 Dmax in 2000ish...while ford was debating how best to f*ck up the 7.2 powerstroke, and Dodge was trying ot get the Cummins to pass emissions...haha I think this V8 Cummer...will be a joke, I wouldnt hesitate to hook chains with one of these things with my 20 year old diesel dinosaur... |

Friend of mine said the engine in these is the same as was used in school buses. He has nothing but good things to say about this truck and said he will bring one over when he can get his hands on one. (He is a supervisor on the assembly line at the Nissan plant here)
It will be good to add some competition to the truck line. Maybe it will help bring the prices back to normal. I welcome the new competition.

Poor nissan though, it's looking like the diesel prices are going to stay way higher than gasoline for a while Unless they can make up in efficency the price difference, they're going to be hard pressed to sell the diesel at a premium over their gasoline engines. |

The 800lb gorilla in the 1/2 ton diesel room is the price of diesel. Yes, it would be really great to get 28mpg in any full size truck, but the fact that diesel is a buck or more higher per gallon negates quite a few mpg's. And considering that roughly half the diesel produced here gets exported, that bizarro world, upside down pricing isn't going to change any time soon.
If I didn't actually need a diesel truck to work with, I wouldn't own one. |

the tech is great; but the looks of this 2016 is somewhat ugly (from the pic - anyways). I'd have to drink a few beers before wanting to get into it.

The complexity of the emissions packages on diesels is what pushed me away from ever owning another. Gasoline engines are just just so much more straight forward. I don't have a heavy tow so 1/2 ton gas pickups are fine for me. Quite honestly the 1/2 ton trucks today are pretty much 5/8 tons or some sort of almost 3/4 ton truck compared to stuff 15 years ago.

Thats about a 4000lbs payload capacity.. My 3/4 Ton Diesel, 20 years old has a 8600lb GVWR, which is about a 2500lbs payload capacity... These trucks are...underpowered, and antiquated by todays standards, both with about 430ft/lbs of torque, and dry weights near 6200lbs. The Dually was rated to like 15,000lbs towing gooseneck style, the 3/4 ton about 11,000 as I recall. Modern trucks can do 30,000lbs...and have nearing 1000 ftlbs of torque... |

My opinion?
Looks like a Ford. A regular Titan is $40k. What will this cost? Never have been, never will be a diesel fan. Noisy and stinky. And smoke too damn much. Too damn big, Hell, all the full size trucks are too damn big. They're like driving a bus. Rather have a Chevy or Ford myself. Oh, and I work for Nissan. |

But yes..looks like a ford, which isnt a good thing...I havent looked it up but Id reckon prices for a crew cab 4X4 with the diesel will be 55K if not more...
But, I feel like it will be like the "new tundra"...People pay a premium, get the V8...4X4...crew cab, pay over 50K for it...only to find, its not like the old tundra..its huge, its heavy, its thirsty...and not overly capable offroad, nor towing...I only say this because my neighbor bought one...had to get another truck to pull his trailer because the damn Tundra kept kicking on the "trac control" warning light and it wouldnt let him go over like 20mph...and with a trailer it was too hard to limp it home of to the dealer for a reset with 5K on the bumper... Its huge..it dwarfs my old fullsize pickups, in heighth, everything... and for the money, you expect more... |

The times have changed. Even with the cost of diesel being higher, I have seen overall ownership and operating costs very comparable to gas, with a LOT more resale value when the time comes. |
