Until the Pres gives up on his idea to raise taxes again a deal will not go through! Rep got burned last time on that so they refuse to give in.

Pres and Dems need to compromise this time! You know that will not happen!

The President and his followers will do everything possible to paint this as a nightmare for the country and, in fact, will purposefully make it as painful as possible using any extreme measures that they can.

Why?

Because when tax payers figure out that by not borrowing this 2% more of our budget doesn't affect them in any way, they'll be fond of the idea of cutting even more. The lemmings in the Democratic party can't have an informed populous nor a taxpayer base that realizes that cutting spending is the only way out of this mess.

Stop spending the money we don't have, and spend the money we do have wiser!

This.

They will park aircraft carriers, etc and scream "The Republicans made me do it."

On the other hand, nothing to address duplicated federal agencies, waste in the system, etc.

As an example, I went through Reagan National Airport a while ago, and several others have the same thing going on. You know there is the point at which you have gone out of the "sterile" (ie secutiry-screened) area and you are not allowed to return up that hall.

It has a TSA agent sitting guard there 24/7 to make sure that no one comes back across the point of no return.

It takes a minimum of 5 or 6 people to staff that position for a year, each of which has to cost the government at least 60k, or at least $300k a year to watch this hall.

My local airport has a rotating door that will only allow you to go through it one way. Problem solved, much cheaper.

But No, Chicago politics dictates that we scare the sheeple by cutting the critical services first.

That's because they pander to the uninformed and have the media to back them up and spread their lies.

What is the problem? Cutting 85 BILLION from the current budget GROWTH is not a problem. Or at least should not be a problem.

Most Americans have had to deal with a 4% decrease in median income over the past two-three years. A 2.5 decrease in spending growth is not a problem.

It's all Smoke a mirrors of the political elite to keep us from asking the thugh questions. Like when are you going to RELLY cut spending?

40% of GDP is all Government spending.

Thats unsustainable.

Head over to Drudge and read some of the links on the right column...old people will starve...homeless will die...etc. etc. etc.

But we knew this would happen...the left are, purposefully, creating these issues for their political gain.

And the uninformed will do nothing except vote for them. Guarantee you if it were a Republican POTUS and Democratic House that there would be riots if this same thing were happening.

I've been receiving almost daily emails from management and others all the way up the chain of command informing us of how they plan on handling the forced days off without pay. As far as the contractors that work for and with me their service has already been paid for via contract up front so the sequestration won't affect them much at all until their current contracts expire.

Got an email yesterday explaining the "Do's" & "Don'ts" for Civil Servants wanting to get a 2nd job to fill in for the forced days off without pay. While this 20% cut in pay will not kill me it sure does reduce the amount of pocket money we have to help our other family members who are not so lucky in these trying times.

Fmr. Sen. Phil Gramm: Nation Survived '86 Sequester, Will Survive Again

Fmr. Sen. Phil Gramm: Nation Survived '86 Sequester, Will Survive Again
Tuesday, 26 Feb 2013 11:09 PM
By Paul Scicchitano

Former Sen. Phil Gramm, who authored legislation that triggered a 1986 sequester, insists that “the predicted disaster never came.”

In an op-ed that was published Tuesday by The Wall Street Journal, the former Texas senator insisted that “the nation survived then. It will now.”

The Republican said that President Obama’s “scare tactics” are simply unfounded.

“The president's response to the sequester demonstrates how out of touch he is with the real world of working families,” according to Gramm, who authored the Gramm-Rudman-Hollings Balanced Budget and Emergency Deficit Control Act that triggered the earlier sequester.

“Even after the sequester, the federal government will spend $15 billion more than it did last year, and 30 percent more than it spent in 2007,” he said. “Government spending on nondefense discretionary programs will be 19.2 percent higher and spending on defense will be 13.8 percent higher than it was in 2007.”

He said the “anguished cries and dark predictions coming out of the white house” should not elicit sympathy — but “revulsion,” particularly since the typical American family earns less than it did before Obama took office.

“While Mr. Obama may choose to make the cuts ordered by the sequester in the most painful way possible, the best alternative — which is practiced every year to some extent — is allowing federal agencies to transfer funds among individual programs with congressional approval or by rearranging priorities as part of the March 27 resolution to fund the government for the rest of the fiscal year,” he penned.

O'Reilly: Limbaugh Wrong Left Has Won

O'Reilly: Limbaugh Wrong Left Has Won
Monday, 25 Feb 2013 10:41 PM
By Todd Beamon

Fox News host and best-selling author Bill O’Reilly on Monday disputed conservative radio talk-show host Rush Limbaugh’s contention that liberals are the dominant political ideology in the United States.

“We are now in a struggle to define America,” O’Reilly said in his “Talking Points” segment of his top-rated program. “The left has powerful agents in the media and pop culture. The right is disorganized and lacks leadership.”

O’Reilly’s nightly show — “The O’Reilly Factor” — is the highest rated cable news program in the country.

But on his Friday radio show, Limbaugh said: “The purpose of this program has been to create as large a body of informed voting citizens as possible. While we’ve been largely and profoundly successful at that, the left has beaten us. They have created far more low-information, unaware, uneducated people than we’ve been able to keep up with.

“If a majority of people are educated and informed and know what’s going on, liberalism and these powerful forces that have ill intent to the country can be defeated,” Limbaugh added. “Yet despite overwhelming success in creating more and more people who are informed and active and involved, the left has control of the education system, control of the pop culture, movies, TVs, books, music. We’ve just been outnumbered.”

Limbaugh’s remarks on Friday expanded on those he made the previous day on his show in which he said that he was “ashamed” of the United States because of Congress’ inability to avert the $85 billion in cross-government cuts scheduled to take place Friday under sequestration.

“Ladies and gentlemen, for the first time in my life, I am ashamed of my country,” Limbaugh said on Thursday. “To have our common sense and intelligence insulted the way it’s being is — it just makes me ashamed.”

On his Monday program, O’Reilly did not dispute Limbaugh’s claim that the media and pop culture wield massive influence among Americans. “But I do not believe that liberal thought is dominant in the USA,” he said.

“However, the country is changing quickly into an entitlement society. It’s not so much that apathetic Americans are embracing the tenants of the left. It’s just that they’re selfish and they want money for nothing,” O’Reilly said.

He pointed to some instances of growing liberalism on certain social issues — including gay marriage, with 35 percent in favor in 2001 compared with 48 percent in favor now, and on the legalization of marijuana, 34 percent in 2003 versus 40 percent now.

But O’Reilly then cited the results of Gallup polls regarding government-sponsored health care: 62 percent backed it in 2002, compared with only 44 percent a decade later — “most likely because most people don’t like the Obamacare law.

“That is not — not — a liberal trend,” O’Reilly added.

The key to changing this malaise in American society is, he said, “a charismatic conservative leader” who can “fight off the media jackals.”

“That person can turn the country to the right,” O’Reilly said, “because America is inherently a place of achievement. We’ve always been that.

“It’s true that more Americans today want handouts more than ever before, but that can be reversed because of self-interest,” he added. “Once Americans understand that if the government becomes a nanny state, with high taxation everywhere, it’ll be 10 times harder for anyone to succeed on a grand scale.

“There’s no question that President [Barack] Obama and the Democratic Party want to take things away from successful Americans. That is not an attractive proposition to most people, as the polls say.

“But the right has not been able to articulate the danger of the nanny state and a socialistic philosophy,” O’Reilly added. “There’s always been selfish Americans. There’ve always been people who see themselves as victims — and want to be paid for their perceived suffering. We’ve always had that.

“Now, those people are in a comfort zone, because their victimization is not being challenged. It’s being encouraged — by the Obama administration.

“But once the nanny-state victimization mentality begins to get hammered in an effective way, it will quickly fall apart — as fair-minded, hard-working Americans will reject it.

“Therefore, the left has not won in America,” O’Reilly declared. “Not yet.”
