Default *Pot* Robertson ?

Pat Robertson tells '700 Club' viewers current marijuana laws should be changed.

December 23, 2010

Pat Robertson tells '700 Club' viewers current marijuana laws should be changed | Top of the Ticket | Los Angeles Times

The Rev. Dr. Pat Robertson, a longtime central influencer in conservative Christian Republican politics, came out recently on television to say that the direction many politicians have taken regarding marijuana has turned out to be wrong.

Robertson claims that mandatory minimum sentencing for Americans caught with relatively small amounts of pot is costing the nation too much money and is not rehabilitating them.

"I'm not exactly for the use of drugs, don't get me wrong, but I just believe that criminalizing marijuana, criminalizing the possession of a few ounces of pot, that kinda thing, it's just -- it's costing us a fortune and it's ruining young people," the televangelist said on his long-running show, "The 700 Club," on the Christian Broadcasting Network.

"Young people go into prisons, they go in as youths and come out as hardened criminals.
That's not a good thing."

Interestingly, CBN (probably in the wake of headlines like "The 420 Club?," "Robertson: ‘Criminalizing Marijuana’ Is ‘Ruining Young People,’" and "Shock: Christian Coalition founder Pat Robertson favors marijuana legalization") has felt the need to fine-tune what its founder said.

"Dr. Robertson did not call for the decriminalization of marijuana.

He was advocating that our government revisit the severity of the existing laws because mandatory drug sentences do harm to many young people who go to prison and come out as hardened criminals," Chris Roslan, a CBN spokesman, said this week.

"He was also pointing out that these mandatory sentences needlessly cost our government millions of dollars when there are better approaches available.

Dr. Robertson's comments followed a CBN news story about a group of conservatives who have proven that faith-based rehabilitation for criminals has resulted in lower repeat offenders and saved the government millions of dollars.

Dr. Robertson unequivocally stated that he is against the use of illegal drugs."

No Prob ... it was *taken out of context* ...

If I'm reading it correctly, I don't see him taking issue with this...just passing along info.

FWIW...it would be the first thing Roberston has said that I would support. It does cost the nation too much $$$.

Exactly; when do you ever hear anyone saying we have too many Jails and we’re spending too much on them? But heaven forbid if we do something smart like, being proactive and spend a fraction of that money on Education and Youth Enriching Programs.

Lets see, just who/what/where was in power when the anti drug laws became in effect?? bet it was PROGRESSIVES.....

at any rate, the issue is to eliminate all illegal drugs, sell them over the drug store counter....tax them like booze and get OVER with it....

and cut off the welfare checks....no more child support, no more housing, no more utility bill help....no more food stamps..... 6 months unemployment ONLY after working 5 years steady enough....no 6 month breaks in there.....

THAT cuts down on the spare time due to WORKING for 4 hots and a cot....

so no spare time to do drugs.....

cut hell outta large screen TV sales.....and Caddy's with large wheels....

and it will restabilize Mexico....

Mexico's failure to deal with the cartels is a definite problem for the US.
Mexico got nothing to be ABLE to cope with cartels financed by the enablement of crime/drug use brought on and facilitated by the feel good Do Mo Crap/PROGRESSIVES in the FED.GOV.......eliminate all that 60's welfare bull**** and anything following it, and watch the problems melt away in about 6 months.....

all the illegals flee as no jobs, as the lazy go to work, or starve....simple as that......

yeh, I"m a prick, and proud of it.....

Isn’t that how they pay for drugs in your world?

Imagine that, a multi-billion dollar drug organization, supported by Welfare.

Did we try this theory once back in the 70s and 80s?

Do we still not know where the real money for Drugs are coming from … really now … come-on!

I never stated anything directly or indirectly of the sort.

Not sure what you're referencing. Could you elaborate?

And where would that be?

Wow, you really aren't playing stupid.

WELFARE ENABLES them to lay around all day, they don't HAVE to work, just knock out another kid, housing, food, AFDC, etc, even utility bills are covered....so they have all damn day from about noon until 3 am to do crime and drugs....anything they make off it goes into the drug trade....

and what they can rip to cash off the checks goes there too.....

what so damn hard about THAT to understand??

I look at it....every damn dime we spend on welfare in this country goes into the drug cartels.....seems like mainly Mexico today....

Now this I agree with. I don't necessarily agree with the last sentence because not everyone on Welfare is a druggie, but there are a lot of them. We have created generations of couch potatoes.

Not necessarily. There are some people who genuinely need a helping hand, and as Americans I think we ought to lend it from time to time. But there needs to be limits to everything. I know of a few people who were on welfare...they came upon hard times and were grateful for the help. But the entire time they were looking for jobs and I don't think any of them stayed on it for more than 6 months.

Overall however, welfare is a dismal failure.

So no one on this Forum remembers The Great War On Drugs and how well that went; or are we all going to pretend it didn't happen?

The answer to your questions are well documented ... should you care to look.

That WAR ON DRUGS was brought to you as a cover ploy for headlines/PR's by the very self same folks who enabled the drug problem in the FIRST place....

the Fed.GOV, INC......

and if you don't believe them they will start another PR campaign and keep going till you DO....

Joe Gerbils .........
