Default [Woodworking] New Year's Day Bowl

no, not football.

Walnut, Cherry, and Maple.

Mrs. DAB said "mine!", so we'll keep it around.

what no one sees is the absolute pile of shavings and sawdust that is created turning such a small bowl. filled the dustpan 3 times, and then vacuumed up the remainder.

there is very little demand for wood shavings and sawdust.

Nice bowl!

I've generated my share of sawdust & turning shavings, and had a friend with a small greenhouse operation who used to take whatever I collected. He made some kind of liquid fertilizer for some purpose out of them.

this had walnut mixed in, so not usable for anything. walnut sawdust will kill plants, and if used for horse bedding, will make your horse sick, if not kill it.

Package it as "organic" and sell it to local pet stores, for hamster habitats.

need to buy some more oak today, ran short building a coffee table.

i had bought a pile of lumber, made the entertainment center, then the wall shelf unit, and didn't have enough to finish the coffee table (all 3 pieces will match in color when done). have the top and legs roughed out. need enough for a lower shelf, 2 drawers (i think i'll dovetail them), and the framing to hold the drawers. still working out the joinery and design. have a picture for inspiration.
