I had an LG that I spent $2700 for and after 14 months, it died on me...no more warranty and even the store I bought it from was no longer in business.
I went out and bought a cheap replacement... In the meantime - I had several repair guys come out and all of them told me it would be over $1000 to repair the fridge. Since I had a working fridge, I took to the google-web, did searching, took my time reading what people had done, compared to what was happening, and finally went to taking the broken fridge apart. I found that my issue was a fan that moved the cold air from the coils to the fridge. I found the part online for $37, replaced it, put things back together and it has been running fine now (in the garage) for almost 3 years. What is happening with yours? I am happy to help and see if I can direct your to a solution. |

The GE appliances I bought when I bought my house in '07 were in perfect working order when I sold the house.

Ugh. What broke? It's been a long time since I worked at GE but I'm still pretty good at these things.
I don't remember which one you bought. |

You may have to do what many others have done when their newer refrigerator breaks: Buy an older U.S. made refrigerator with a compressor and other pats made here. There are always plenty for sale on Craigslist.
The reason newer refrigerators quit working is that almost (all?) of them are either made in China or with Chinese parts; they don't last long, and they are very expensive to repair. Older U.S.-made refrigerators, on the other hand, are made with American parts, built to last, and reasonable to repair. My old GE, bought new in 1970, lasted until 3 years ago. |

I've fixed a number of appliances by searching for videos of people who have a similar problem. Unless your compressor or coil is bad, it's probably fairly simple once you identify what part needs replaced.

Don't buy Electrolux/Frigidaire if you want reliability or customer service.

I worked for GE for almost 37 years making jet engine parts. My kids used to laugh at me when we got on a plane and the first thing I did was check to see if it had GE engines. I told them we were getting off the plane if it did!

Shortly thereafter, the powers that be decided that was too expensive so off to China and Mexico it all went. This change played a large part in my deciding to leave. I refuse to have any role in putting Americans out of jobs in order to save $.0002 on a part. I currently have a kitchen full of made in the USA GE appliances that have served me well. There is no way in hell I would buy anything from them now. Of course GE Appliances isn't even GE anymore, so there's that. For those that don't know, straight from the GE site: Quote:

That sucks !! I have an all GE Monogram kitchen since 2006 . Problems since then: Wine fridge-OOC. GE replaced/no charge. Fridge Ice machine auger broke-I bought-new part $120. Dishwasher tried to burn down my house-recall I was never told about-GE replaced burned shit in dishwasher and called it a day. I was not the happiest person they talked to that day.

LG washer, dead at 4-5 years. LG dryer bought at same time, lasted 8-9 years. Replaced LG washer with GE, and the fact that it hasn't slung parts like a shelled out jet engine is beyond me. It sounds like the "gravitron" at the fair, just before everyone starts puking. Just waiting to replace it....
