Default Some cloud pics

I have a great southern view on my property in Yadkin County. So I can get some decent cloud shots.

Moon through some clouds.

Some nice sunset colors in the rest of these sequences

Notice the deep translucent blue in this coud. A tiny bit of a rainbow in there too.

After a while, the late afternoon sun caught it.

I've got a lot more, I just picked these out.
Hope you enjoy.

The shots that include some foreground are better, it adds some dimension to the clouds.

Playing around with different zooms. I need to bite the bullet and go ahead and get a wide-angle lens.

I'd HIGHLY recommend the Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM Lens. It's not the fastest thing on the market but it's still terrific.

The 17-40L doesn't get the love it deserves from the Canon fans but it does a great job, especially on a full frame camera.

On a crop sensor, I really like the Tokina 11-16 f2.8. It has roughly the same FOV on the wide end as the 17-40L has on a full frame sensor and the equivalent of a 35mm FF on the high end. I've had two of these and you can pick one up for $300-$400 on CL. Tokina has released an 11-20 2.0 especially for crop sensor cameras that I would look at too.

One thing about the 17-40L... it's Canon and it's L series so it will probably hold value better than the Tokina. This is all moot if you have a full frame... just get the 17-40L.

EDIT: The down side of the Tokina is that it doesn't play well with Full Frame cameras. I can get decent shots at 16mm on my Full Frame but horrible vignetting at anything less.

Oh, I love the moon shot but agree with Thomas... the ones with some foreground are better. I especially like the 4th from the bottom. Have you done any Lightroom or Photoshop adjustments? If you shot these in raw, I'll bet there is some more subtle color and detail you can bring out.

Cool shots!

Thanks. Nope, those are jpgs. Not shopped though. In the ones without the foreground, I was trying to get up into the cloud. There is a lot of depth in a good thunderhead, just hard to capture it. All those shots were with the EFS 18-135 lens; I guess I probably should have switched over to the EFS 55-250 lens for the deeper shots.
