Default Men with beards carry more germs than dogs...

... including deadly bacteria in facial fuzz, study claims.

https://www.thesun.co.uk/sun-men/886...dogs-bacteria/

Researchers discovered that nearly half of all sampled beards hosted bugs dangerous to human health.

Dogs were described as ‘cleaner’ than bearded men, a surprising study has shown.

The study was trying to determine whether there was a risk of humans picking up a dog-borne disease from an MRI scanner also used for examinations by vets, the Mail On Sunday reports.

In examining the beards of 18 men and the necks of 30 dogs from a number of breeds, scientists found that even hounds had lower levels of microbes than the beards surveyed.

The study found all of the bearded men, aged from 18 to 76, showed high microbial counts, while only 23 out of 30 dogs had high counts, and the remainder had moderate levels.

Seven of the men were shown to have bugs hazardous to human health.

The scanners were disinfected after the dogs were examined on the MRI scanner, showing a “significantly” lower bacteria count compared with levels seen when used by humans.

“On the basis of these findings, dogs can be considered as clean compared with bearded men,” said Dr Gutzeit.

I've had a beard for 40+ years; I guess I'm lucky to be alive. Maybe the alcohol that dribbles through my beard keeps the microbes under control?

In the 80s I grew my beard every fall and shaved it in the spring. The last time I shaved my beard off was Oct of 1991

I've grown my beard off and on for the last 35 years. I would grow it in November/December time frame and shave it off by April or May. Every time I shampooed my hair, I would also shampoo my beard.

Maybe the study was done on homeless men with beards.

Mine get washed every single day when I shower. Hot days I shower morning and night.

When I had a beard I cleaned it by rubbing it against my dog.

Have had a beard since early 80's what's the issue?

......the article from the Sun in the UK must have stumbled on a local issue with the Brit's. Maybe they grow beards to hide their smiles and dentql work?

Since I grew my beard thirty seven years ago I have shaved it off three times. All lasted about a week. It gets washed daily. Maybe the cigar smoke keeps the bugs under control.

Similar story for me. I shaved my beard for a new job. That October, I grew it back under the guise of it being for Halloween...and I never shaved it again. That was in 1995. It used to be brown instead of white though.

Started growing a beard in 1977, was in the hospital after a 20' fall. Went home after a couple weeks and it was 10 degrees out. My face was nice and warm and at that point I decided as I'm a outside construction worker to grow a beard every winter.

About 1985 I decided to keep a beard year around, Shorter in the good weather and more full in the cold weather. Normal hygiene rules apply and so far to the best of my knowledge nether I or anyone else has got hurt by "Beard Germs"

I first grew mine in 1976. Many years later I shaved it off just for a change of appearance, & found I had grown a double chin under there. Started to grow it back in the next day & kept it ever since.

Used to have sideburns and shaved them some decades ago, my mustache has been a recent goner because the hair starting growing weird, hard to keep trimmed and 1/2 way symetrical/normal looking, about a months ago, I just got tired of it too......been shaving my eyebrows too, odd that the skin is really dark under there....so with glasses, hardly noticeable they gawn....I started shaving them a year ago, psoriasis flaking skin into my eyes over night, I think causing my eye earitation......and it has helped....
