Never been a member of AAA. And if there was a problem with a tire, I just want to be able to drive it home or to a garage instead of dicking around and waiting for somebody.
Great inventions: Sliced bread, caller ID, intermittent wipers, climate control in cars, online banking, and RF tires! ![]() |

Got a set of tire sensors coming from eBay: New OEM, $54 for four.
Imma having Van Bortel Corvette do the tires, sensors, and alignment on June 14. They will have the Michelin A/S there for close to Tirerack's price. |

Bruze:
DON’T get run flats. Don’t. I agonized over this decision. I got non run flats for my 05. I NEVER looked back. The comfort, quiet and everything else was, as I suspected, worth the idea of having to deal with a flat tire out in the middle of nowhere. And I never got a flat. Just like everyone else that made the same decision. Trust me. Get a portable compressor (the knocker kind that plugs into your lighter) and a plug kit. And forget about it and enjoy your new ride. |

I just went back to run flats and replaced my General G-Max RS Extreme Performance Summer tires with new Bridgestone Potenza SOO7 RFT tires. I like them so far. Had Michelin Pilot Sport ZP tires before the Generals.

![]() For just normal "old-man" street driving, I see no negatives with RFs and of course there's the one big positive. |

Got the new tires on yesterday. My car buddy suggested getting the TPS off of eBay as they're much cheaper and he, nor his son, have never had any problem doing that. So I did, they were advertised as OEMs, four for $54.
I looked all over the tiny engraving on them, didn't see "GM" or "Delco" or anything so not sure what I got. The dealer said they had a little trouble getting them programmed, but they got them set okay. About 10 miles from the dealer the icon came on, said to check the system. Checking each tire I get an "XX". I will have my buddy try to program them, will that possibly fix them, or will I end up having to buy new GM ones? Or just put a piece of electrical tape over the icon and ignore it? I didn't have any TPM system the first 47 years of my driving life and seemed to manage okay. ![]() |

I guess I should update this thread, not that there's a lot of traffic here.
![]() I got an $80 rebate getting the tires from the dealer, which brought them to $20 over Tirerack's price. I said ok, for $20 I got less screwing around. What a freaking mistake that was. I got a "Rewards" Visa card. Actuating it was a PITA, website didn't work right. I bought a few lunches with it, but today the diner told me it didn't work, but there should be $20-30 left on it. What a pain in the ass. Shoulda went with Tirerack, I'd have an extra $20 in my pocket and no bullshit. FWIW the TPS monitors: Check my previous post. The ****ing Chevy dealer was probably pissed because I supplied my own and didn't buy their overpriced ones. I called the guy the next day and he said bring it back. I bet they would have told me that they can't program them and they'll have to put GM OEMs in. After a couple of days I had a local tire shop program the TPS. They said it was no problem and they've been fine since, two months later. I hate car dealers. Having worked at one in the '60s, I know how they operate and they're probably ten times worse now. The rush for tires was because I was going to take this 46 year-old babe on a trip (her idea) to southern PA to a horse stable she wanted to visit. That idea fell through but I had to get tires by September anyway to pass inspection. |
