Default Has a family member been inured at Christmas?

Just curious. Any minor or major injuries around the holidays?

We had one, grandma. She got clipped by a reindeer who was leaving sleds and candy canes in a hurry. I had to pay her legal bills as she was not poor enough to be forced on the exchange, but not well off enough to have good health insurance. I called Morgan.

Yes. God put snow on the sledding hill behind our cabin in Idyllwild. My dad went down the hill on a saucer and broke his back. Do we have a case against God?

ObamaCare, just like ObamaEnergy (tm) necessarily made the cost of health insurance skyrocket. So for people who were living at the limit of their means, with no significant savings to draw from, when health insurance did in fact skyrocket, many people who still desired to be insured, who didn't or couldn't bring in extra income, and didn't or couldn't reallocate their spending to shift money from, say, food and rent, to health insurance, faced the choice to either drop their health insurance and go bare, or get on the .gov subsidized dole to get health insurance.

You said stuff like this in another thread, a thread I don't really want to talk about.

I just plain disagree with your sentiment. What you are saying above makes some underlying assumptions that I think are not applicable to a huge percentage of Americans.

The above is ONLY applicable to folks who answer "no" to ALL THREE of the following questions:

1. Are you more than 65 years of age?
2. Do you have a significant net worth such that you can afford to pay $1000 per month for a single person, or $1800 per month for a family?
3. Are you willing to work a full-time or part-time job that offers health insurance as a benefit?

Said another way, a young person with little or no assets who refuses to work has no other realistic option than the exchanges. In my mind, that does not equal being "forced" into anything. They have other options, they just choose not to take them.

I also have little sympathy for poor young folks who refuse to work.

I lost my grip when swinging around on the Festivus pole and went sailing across the room and crashed into the China closet just after the official "Airing of Grievances" during my turn at performing "Feats of Strength".

My father killed himself right before Christmas. His quality of life had gone down the toilet and he didn't see the point. He went on his own terms. Still, a bummer.

I won't belabor the point, but if we are to believe this:

https://www.cnbc.com/2023/09/27/60pe...-paycheck.html

then 6 in ten households are already at their max. I'm assuming some of those households include people who have jobs that offer health insurance. They still need to be able to pay for their portion of that insurance plan. Many employers subsidize the employee, but not so much for the employee's dependents. So if you have a full time job with insurance benefit, if the cost of that is more than your family budget can afford, you face limited options.

For those self employed, as I have been most of my life the options are also limited, if they're part of that 60%.

Forget health insurance. Let's say that, instead of health insurance, the government enacted laws that force the price of rent up, astronomically. What are people's options? They can move in multiple people in one apartment to share in the rent, they might be able to get second or third jobs if they don't have responsibilities like raising kids or taking care of elderly parents. And eventually, at some point, those on the margins are going to end up just getting evicted, because they can't pay the exorbitant rent anymore.

And that's where government steps in and says, "hey, you're not making it, here, let us put you in public housing."

The tl,dr here is government CREATED a problem and then offers a solution to the problem the government created in the first place. Whether that's high priced health insurance, high priced energy, or high priced housing, that's the ultimate issue. We're from the government, and we're here to make you dependent on the government.

I agree with you on the bootstrap argument. 100%. Where we seem to differ is, I oppose government putting it's boot on people's necks making it harder and harder for them to succeed, which is what ObamaCare did and is doing.
