Default Report: Dolphins have contacted ex-Steelers coach Bill Cowher

CBSsports.com is reporting that 'intermediaries' for the Miami Dolphins have contacted people close to former Pittsburgh Steelers coach Bill Cowher about coaching the team.

Cowher, now an 'NFL Today' analyst for CBS, led the Steelers to the Super Bowl twice, with Pittsburgh defeating the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XL. Cowher retired in 2007.

The Dolphins issued a statement to CBSSports.com declining comment.

Dolphins owner Steve Ross decided to stick with coach Tony Sparano after courting Jim Harbaugh, who went on to take the San Francisco 49ers job, in the offseason.

Ross was heavily criticized for flirting with Harbaugh, while Sparano was still leading the team.

The Dolphins suffered an embarrassing loss Sunday to the Denver Broncos. Miami blew a 15-0 lead with three minutes to go as Tim Tebow led Denver to two touchdowns and a two-point conversion to force overtime, where the Broncos won it on a 52-yard field goal.

Not sure Cower will bite at an entry level team. Certainly will be interesting news.

Umm. He used to coach for the Browns. Maybe. Just maybe.

I think Miami is one of the few places that he actually wants to coach.

Tank the season and get Andrew Luck?
Hell yes, he'll be all over that.

He came out and said this weekend that he doesn't have to be the highest paid coach...so he wants to come back to coaching.

Hope he doesn't go the way of Daryl Waltrip and overstay his legacy. Great coach, no doubt about it. I'm a life-long Steelers fan and would love to see him coach again.

This past weekend in NYC there was information leaked the Cowher was eating dinner with the Philadelphia Eagle's Owner. Not much else was leaked but hey one never knows.

Not sure if there is a reason you picked him as an example, but I was a HUGE DW fan when I was a kid...believe me, I know what you mean.

IIRC, no head coach has ever won a superbowl with two teams...
I think Steve Ross is a far cry from the Rooney's.

I was excited when Marv Levy came out of retirement to be the GM for Buffalo for a few years...and he ran the franchise into the ground. Horrible horrible job.
To get Cowher to South Beach, I think Ross will have to give him control over football decisions...
Hope it works out better for him.

Ross needs to give full control to someone. Growing up in Miami, I have been a Dolphins fan since the beginning. At this point, I hope they lose every game to insure that the house will be cleaned of Ireland (GM) and Sporano. And all of the legacy Purcells left behind. What a horrible move that turned out to be.

Miami just took the wrong Parcells coach. Sean Payton has done pretty well in NO.

Giving "complete control" to a coach ends badly more often than not.

Can't be worse than Ross has done so far!

I was wrong re: worst front office in football being the Vikings.

It is clearly the Dolphins.

Who looks at Bush and Sproles and signs Bush?

Cowher would be great for them.

Well the Vikings general manager use to be the Dolphins general manager till they got rid of him and the lucky saps got him. Now when they fire Ireland I'm sure the saps will get him too. They recycle garbage in the NFL..
