Here's a different take on your problem.

Purchase a Dyson vacuum You will be beyond amazed at all the crap it pulls out of your carpet.

My allergies went away ( greatly reduced to being annoying only a few times a year ) after we got the Dyson.

Make sure to get someone experienced in hard wood floor installations to level it up and make it function and look nice. I have worked in carpet mills and only have carpet in the bedrooms. All the chemicals and lint makes me wonder about long term health issues. Tile in the bathrooms and hardwood in all other rooms. Bamboo might be too light a color. We had it in a showroom and it showed every bit of dust. I know a couple of local places that sell it here wholesale. But shipping might be cost prohibitive. You can go for a 'tavern grade' which shows some very minor problems. But I think it also gives some character and saves $$$
House is 7 years old and on a slab, no worries about the subfloor.

Bamboo comes in many shades. Or, at least the strand woven variety does.

Been using a Dyson for years. It does a great job, but it's not enough...

We went from carpet to laminate flooring in our family room last month. We have to run the Dry Swiffer Mop about three times a week, but we all prefer it over carpeting. I notice our furnace filter is trapping more dust, too. Carpet holds a lot of shit.

I love the look and feel of a nice clean hardwood though it seems that carpet is still going to be found on some with a little age on them.

Why do people install these drop-dead-gorgeous wood floors (that would get magazine coverage in those magazines)... and then almost as quickly - cover practically all of it up with throw & area rugs

I've been trying to talk the wife into going with the hardwood look. For some reason, she has some attachment to the carpet.

Just tell her if she doesn't like it, the carpet will grow back.

It will itch a little at first but you can scratch it for her.

I did in my office and spare bedroom last year and it's great. We went with good quality pre-finished engineered hardwood from Lumber Liquidators. We went with an approximate 2300 hardness wood (some sort of African walnut) and it has held up perfectly. The thickness of the veneer is about 3/16", which is pretty thick. We are on a slab so the wood is glued down and would be a bear to replace so we went with a very durable flooring option.

I thought at first that bamboo would be a good way to go but it is way too soft IMHO. Look at the hardness scale!

In '63 Mom & Dad bought a new house, and it was oak flooring everywhere, even the basement stairs....they covered a ALL with wall to wall Gold wool rugs 30 years later sis and I tore it out to prep the house for sale....

the floors were perfect, and the dirt accumulation was not all that bad, really, no pets, just the 2 of them, garage next to kitchen back door...front door hardly used....swept the house clean, not a scratch on the floors except where the tack strip was pulled...

We had carpet in our family room. Broken pipe took care of that.

After replacing the subfloor, we leveled it, put down cement backer board (58 screws per 3x5' sheet) and went with tile that looks like wood planking. It's coming out REALLY nice and going to be MUCH easier to maintain with the 1/16" grout lines between the tiles.

That same damage ruined all our other hardwoods so we pulled it out and put in Brazilian Oak. A bit lighter, hides dirt okay, but not nearly as hard as the Brazilian teak that got too warped to keep down.

That teak could make some great gun grips though I'd bet. I have a few pieces for that. lol

I did my bedroom a few months ago in pre-finished. Came out evry nice, and then my wife proceeded to cover most of it with an arear rug.

I, myself, have also come across a woman with all hardwood floors except for a rear rug.
