He was just fooling around and made this short video of some of his favorite riffs. I thought it was pretty cool.

He has had lessons, to get some theory, but a large part is self taught. He has a good ear for it, and will watch a video, and pick it up.

That shouldn't be too hard!

I'm impressed he can go from song to song to song - that's pretty hard.

One thing I would coach him on is keeping his fingers close to the fretboard instead of lifting them up so high. Much more efficient. He should also start working on using his little finger. I noticed he is using a lot of short cuts (I'm guessing YouTube videos) for example Smoke on the Water. He won't get the sound from the album unless he uses the correct chords. In this case, Smoke on the Water needs the low strings (classic power chords) to sound right.

I am going to steal his method of playing Money for Nothing. I've never been able to figure that out.

Wish I didn't quit when I was a kid.
I can play bass, guitar, and a little ukelele but terribly mediocre at all.

Folks born around 1904 or so, sis was born in '31 me in '44.....she got a piano to run with......I not particularly interested, but Rock came around and so I more interested in DRUMS.....small house, quiet parents...not happening....sis married when I was 8 y/o....piano sat for decades unused.....

so much for my music career....so IF I could not play....the type of music I wanted....jazz/blues/rock I not interested, and neither was my folks....

so into just listening and building band gear for friends....
