I always get an email alert for a PM there, and it has the text of the PM.

Thing is, you won't receive email once you're banned.

Any commercial sender of email must provide a means for recipients to opt out of receiving such mail. A link to "Log in and change your preferences" is obviously a dead-end for banned members...So from admin perspective, the usual practice is to ensure banned members aren't sent any mail from the forum, period.

I'm sure they've corrected it by now, but CF was in violation of this when they first implemented their mention/tagging feature years ago. It was possible to @banned members there, who would then receive the notification email, and no possible way to opt out. A legal no-no.
