Default Washed the engine!

My engine and bay are pretty clean but there was some dust where it was hard to reach so I figured I'd try washing it. Sprayed everything down with simple green, let it sit for a bit, hosed it off and then blew it dry. I kept the engine running the whole time just in case but it never missed a beat. Engine is all clean and sparkly now! I'll find some "stuff" to make it all extra pretty later.

No tips or pointers here, just talkin 'bout my baby.

Be carefull using undiluted Simple Green. It will etch some aluminum including anodized pieces. Don't ask me how I know.

It was a ***** polishing the marks out of the FAST fuel rails.

Some people will shudder when you mention taking water to an engine, but I do it all the time. two or three times a year I will take a diluted degreaser and spray it down, let it sit for a few then wash it down. Usually using very low pressure.

I don't blow it dry though. While it is still wet, I take a little armorall type spray (I use Mother's Protectant) and mist it down, and shut the hood. When it dries it is all nice and shiny.

Of course it is all stock under my hood, I don't think I would try that with lots of bling under there.

Next time use 50/50 Simple Green and water.... also try not to flood the areas to the side of the intake manifold with water. On the C5s the knock sensors are poorly sealed and water can run down onto the valley cover and get into the sensors then corrode them.

Avoide the alternator, air intake, and the battery area. Personally I cover those areas w/ plastic bags.... just remember to take the bag off the alternator before starting the car!

I spray everything down w/ the 50/50 mix then let it sit for about 5 minutes... then I take my car was mit and wash everything I can get my hands on w/ soapy water.... then I rinse it was water directly out of the hose, then fire it up and use my air compressor to blow water out of the nooks and crannies.
