Default I hate detailing... but Meguiar's new Ultimate Compound is so good I need to post

Buffing up the red car... paint is in pretty good shape for a 7 year old car that has never been buffed. Washed w/ dish soap then clayed using Meguiar's Quik Detailer as clay lube.

After some reading on various forums I decided to try Meguiar's new Ultimate Compound... the stuff is quite amazing... cuts nearly as good as M105, has a very long working time, and wipes off simply w/o any dusting etc. I used a borrowed PC buffer (Thanks Travis) w/ an orange pad on a speed just below 5. Made 3-4 passes over each section.

I had planned on using Menzerna FPII w/ a white pad as the next step, but I may just go straight to my LSP (Last Step Product) which is Rejex. Quite a few people on the forums are doing the UC and sealant.... nothing extra etc. Meguiar's product description for the UC says the whole idea is that it finishes super clean and negates the need for additional steps etc.

Some pics... this is clay and compound only... no polish, no sealant...

That first pic looks really good!

I know what ya mean about hating detailing, I dread it but mostly because I'm afraid I'll find a new nick or scratch.

Yes.... lots... when you shine a flourescent light on the paint you can still see some fine marring, but it's not worth it to me to be that anal over the car. It looks fine unless you're using detailer's tricks to analyze the paint.

For me it's becuase I see everything... I've found quite a few spots w/ junk in the clear from the factory and even a few little black particles/spots. I've been to the GM plant a few times and seen their paint shop and they do take great care to minimize this type of thing... but doesn't bug me w/ this car... overall the paint is good for a factory GM job... much less orange peel than some GM paint.

Buffed on it another 4 hours tonight. Takes time to buff out swirls w/ a DA... could step up to a cutting pad and some M105, but for my purposes this is doing plenty good. Menzerna FPII w/ a white pad then Rejex tomorrow.

Still can't get over how nice the Meguiar's UC leaves the paint... normally a compound leaves a slight haze. This new stuff uses Meg's SMAT (Super Micro Abrasive Technology) abrasives and it leaves the paint almost ready for the Rejex, but the Menzerna FPII does make it a little better.

Between you and Roger, how does Ed have time to work on anything else?

Here's some pics I just snapped..... was driving the car all day around NN & the Burg on the H4H road ralley. Somehow we never got rained on. The red really pops now. Used Menzerna FPII w/ a white pad, then Rejex.

I just came back from buying some of this stuff because I like what it did for you. My paint isn't in bad shape but their are some swirl marks I want to try to get out, thanks. We will see what it does for me.
