Default "This copy of Windows is not genuine"...

appears on my computer screen. Google says it's a legitimate message, and they say to go ahead and install it. However, the first question installation asks is, "Do you agree to allow this program to make changes in your computer?".

I don't like that question. Your advice?

You're trying to install Windows on a new computer? What version? Where did you get the DVD? What does it look like? Who is "they"?

Hi,

I am Peggy with Microsoft customer support, and I will be pleasing to help you with your Windows issue. First, however, kindly go to your nearest Western Union location and purchase a "green dot" money transfer to pay for the computer help.

No! do not click yes..

If your windows is not real, it does not matter, things still work

They will try to force you to buy a copy from them, and possibly mess up your system if you don't

My copy isn't genuine, the only thing it won't let me do is set the background pic

When I click "Install Now", that question (Will you allow, etc.) is the first thing that appears. I assume it's from Wondows.

Mine is not genuine either, even though my computer came with a genuine copy, so guess that makes it ok..

Mine lets it update with no problems and recognizes it as real..

Had a few updates I wish I didn't get like update to 10 and was hard to get rid of..

Which reminds me, I need to get a back up of this win7 Install in case it gets scratched...

Hmmm, you must be a lawyer, because I asked you specific questions and you didn't answer any of them. Let's try again:

1. Are you installing Windows on a new computer?

2. What version? This requires a number, usually between 7 and 10.

3. Where did you get the DVD? Back alley? Found it? Imagine you are trying to defend a client who was found to possess 5000 tablets of Oxycontin. You ask him where he got it, and have to explain to him "I assume it's from a doctor." probably won't work in court.

4. What does it look like? That is, is there a Sharpie involved here, with "Winders" or something like that scrawled on a burned DVD?

Oh, and who is "they"?

Am guessing you have Win7.. that's normal, but click no.. you do not want them to be allowed to mess with your comp..

Do you have a legal install Larry? not that I care or anyone else but Microsoft

Am kinda assuming you don't..

The problem is when you do not have a legit install, they know when it trys to update.. too late now but you should have turned them off.

Now that they know you will be constantly reminded every time you start up that your shit aint real, and a pain in the ass..

possibly you can delete all updates and get rid of it, (possibly) or start over and the next time make sure to turn off all updates

It sounds like you are trying to install a program of some sort on a non-legit copy of Windows. Does this properly describe the current situation?

Sorry.

1. My computer is a year old, and I just plugged it in and it worked. I am not trying to install anything. After I had been using the computer a while, the message started showing up. The message is accompanied by a screen, just something else to close several times a day.

2. I am supposed to be using Windows 7. That's what the box the computer came in said.

3. I never had a DVD.

4. See 3.

5. See 1.

I got this.. and know this message well

He let it update and Windows busted him for an illegal copy...

Just re-install. then turn off the updates.. or just live with the annoying message at start up..

The P-I is like the Wild West. Anything goes. That means if one wants something done, there is a way/person just around the corner. That even means getting a hit put on someone. So, a pirate copy of Windows is very easy and a coupla dollars. If you have an IT relative, it's free. He even wiped my laptop and reloaded everything just for fun. Also, I bought current PC games at the game store in the mall for three or four dollars.

Yep, the P-I is an amazing place in so many ways.
