Do you even bother to argue with a homeopathic remedies person?

A friend of mine says she got 2 spider bites a week or so ago. She doesn't know what kind of spider, but that the bites were very painful with swelling. She used coconut oil with salt and baking soda to fight the poison of the spider bite along with Benadryl. She says she's now much better. According to her, her neighbor had a snake bite (again, unknown species) that was treated the same way.

This seems incredibly stupid to me, particularly when she says that if she had cancer she's treat it with a combination of "natural" remedies (a lemon and baking soda mix) together with scientific remedies. Problem with that, as I see it, who decides which natural remedy combined with which scientific remedy to use, when to combine the remedies, and what are the interactions? I don't think anyone knows those answers.

To a homeopath, simply having homeopathic remedies in and of itself is sufficient.

Having effective homeopathic remedies is really not a going concern.

I had someone tell me yesterday that just thinking positive will cure me. OK, I'll just ignore the decades of science that says this shit is incurable and will kill you.

I'm not even negative about it. I just accept reality. Doesn't mean I'm fighting it with everything I've got.

I'm not opposed to homeopathy. There is a philosophy that drugs seduce the mind while the body heals itself.

Just because something doesn't carry a big pharma patent doesn't mean it doesn't work. My friend from high school is an acupuncturist and qi gong healer. I'm probably the most cynical person here, but I can attest that.....the shit works. As my friend points out, Chinese medicine, herbs, acupuncture, qi gong, and things like that haven't persisted for thousands of years because they DON'T work. I'm assuming the same is true for homeopathy.


Personally, if I am sick, I want to explore ALL my options.

Homeopathic remedies are made by taking some possibly effective ingredient and then diluting it until it's virtually undetectable. The thinking is this somehow tricks your body into healing itself, different starting ingredients will trick the body in different ways. It is, essentially, a targeted placebo. And, it will have the same effectiveness as giving someone a sugar pill and telling them it will fix that spider bite right up.
