Default Cruise ships not allowed to port

These ships seem to be a perfect place to field test the Hydroxychloroquine treatment. They cannot port, they don't have external influence or interaction with outsiders. It seems they could be provided enough to treat everyone on board that is sick as well as prophylactically, and wait the 5 days and see what the results are. If I was sick, on a ship, with no timeline for returning home, I'd take it.

Same goes for the Eisenhower carrier.

Does seem like an opportunity to test in a controlled environment.
I could see putting trained medical staff and equipment on board and turning it into a hospital ship with quarantine areas.
While I feel for those people that have to understand keeping them on the ships is the best option for everyone. Beats that one ship when the sewers failed and backed up into the ship all over though.
My FIL was going on his cruise regardless of situation in a couple of days if they hadn't canceled it.

The cruise forums were full of people 3-4 weeks ago saying “I’m going, I don’t care” blah blah.

I don’t feel sorry for anyone on a ship right now except ones maybe on a 100 day world voyage. The rest knew the risk and said “**** it” anyway.

He was taking shit from everyone especially his 77 year old wife with MS and a lot of other health issues. I had told him to be prepared for a minimum 2 week quarantine when he got off the ship and how was his wife going to get along for 2 additional weeks.
He canceled or the line canceled not sure which.

Glad to hear he is not stuck out in the ocean. But I agree with his wife and others, anyone who stepped foot on a cruise ship after about March 6th or so is a moron and pretty much deserves whatever they get.

They’ve been shut down for 2 weeks or so but some ships were in the middle of their run and tried to finish.

I know of one ship, Carnival I believe, the USA told them to go to port in the Bahamas, because that's where the ship is registered.

Cruise companies are based here in the USA, but fly the flag of other countries because of the tax situation. Can't blame them I guess, but it's coming back to bite them in the ass now.

**** Them. Cruise ships are giant petri dishes.

The cruise lines thought they were gaming the system by registering in foreign countries. They won for a while but as with all gambling, the house always wins. So I now snicker and point at management who are getting absolutely destroyed by their own game. The thing is, though, what to do with the average worker who has bills to pay and no job.

Not only taxes, but also labor law. Like having to pay every employee on the ship minimum wage. They couldn't stay in business if they had to do that.

I seldom pull the “M” (moron) word. But M-M-M-M-M-F#%k ‘eM instantly comes to mind for cruisers. Didn’t they read about the Jap-flagged cruise ship that was contaminated and couldn’t find a port - along with at least three others in the daily headlines? Certified “M” folks should not be allowed back into our country to risk spreading their germs without a 10-day minimum quarantine at their expense. And, maybe sterilize them from spreading “M” babies. I’m sick of this crap. Its killing our economy and we’re not set up for @M’s” to exacerbate the crisis.

But yet they all ask our government for a bailout like the airlines.
