Lame. Both of you guys. Just Lame.

Yadkin, you didn't answer my question: did you see the Car Wizard's latest video on the 2.0 engine used in your car and in Audi's and VW's? Pretty grim stuff.

Do you know the percentage of people who don't maintain their cars? Or do it poorly? It's huge.

Miss a few oil changes, use crappy oil, or the wrong viscosity and you will easily mess up the hydraulic tensioners.

I never miss an oil change. In fact I change it every 5000 miles. Mobile One. My hands and tools, not some high school dropout at Jiffy.

The issue was not a jacked tensioner, but one that extended out fully, 13 clicks, and still not enough. Chain stretch was too great due to design issues.
Your oil choice and regimen may well allow you to avoid this entirely. We shall see if you keep it another 30-50k miles. My bet is you'll likely make it. Been watching the timing chain on my '83 Hi Lux every valve adjustment and so far so good at 275k miles. When it gets sloppy I'll change it and plug along.
On the Car Wizard, not only did the local dealer have tons of chain kits for the 2.0, but also over 90 rebuilt heads in stock for that engine. Lots of bent valves and jumped chains.

Mobile One? WTF is that? You might be an engineer, but not a car guy.

"Mobil"
I was at a cruise in once and a gal had a table set up selling stuff. She asked me if she could talk to me about essential oils. I told her that the only oil that was essential to me was 5W-30.

If you own an Audi or VW built from 2008 to 2013, that has a 2.0 turbo engine, the chances are that your car is affected by the timing chain issues. These problems were severe enough to spark a class-action in the 2018 lawsuit that resulted in a settlement a year later.

Mine's an '18.

Thanks for the information. I was unaware.

I was watching wheeler dealer a while back and they said it was $5,000 per axle.

Parts are less than $100/ wheel on mine.

I saw a video the other day about the fuse panel for an Audi. They didn't state the model or year. To get to it, you had to remove the cowl panel, the washer fluid bottle, and the engine computer. A total shit-show.

The fuse panel on my Macan is located under a panel in the trunk. Very easy to access.

From my experience, this car is made to be repairable. Unlike most of the FWD crap out there.

Back in the 90's, I was doing an emergency brake handle adjustment on a BMW 5 series, IIRC. Had to take down the front headliner bow. You see, to remove the center console to get to the adjuster nut, you had to remove the lower dash panel that blocked the center console. To remove the dash panel, you had to remove the UPPER dash panel which locked the center and lower dash panels in place. To remove the UPPER dash panel, the A pillar covers had to be removed. To remove THEM, the front headliner trim had to be removed. 30 years later and I still remember what a POS it was. Worked on a TON of German cars in the '80's and '90's and learned never to buy a water cooled one. Ever.

When I replaced the crank position sensor on Baby Doll's '11 BMW I filled up a table and the floor below it with parts. Most of the plastic hoses broke during disassembly so the car was out of service for over a week while waiting for replacements.

Porsche owners tend towards DIYers and from what I've seen with mine they are designed with that in mind.

Agree. Saw a video on a BMW service and the square O rings fail in the alternator bracket, which also is hollow to flow power steering fluid. You can't make this stuff up. The reason I have a comprehensive extractor set and left-hand drill bits is because of all the German cars I used to work on that had snapped off fasteners, corrosion issues, etc. Not to mention the electrical issues and out-gassed plastic components, which disintegrate while you look at them. I still miss my '63 Beetle, though. What a great car that was.
