The top 11 analysed positions for both partners combined - for calories burned

Fitness experts have revealed the fitness credentials of different sex positions and which burn the most calories.

Research conducted by 24/7 Fitness, explored the link between sex and fitness, as well as analysing 11 different sexual positions to calculate the potential calories burned during a 30-minute session.

And it seems that position really does matter when it comes to 'sex-ercise' - with the standing position burning off an impressive 343 calories between both partners.

The standing position came out on top, with 343 calories burned between both partners.


1. Standing – 343 calories burned, combined

2. Wheelbarrow – 316 calories burned, combined

3. Lotus– 287 calories burned, combined

4. Legs Akimbo– 264 calories burned, combined

5. Doggy – 260 calories burned, combined

6. Missionary (Hips Dipped) – 250 calories burned, combined

7. Squatting – 238 calories burned, combined

8. Missionary – 199 calories burned, combined

9. Cowgirl – 187 calories burned, combined

10. Reverse Cowgirl – 187 calories burned, combined

11. Spooning – 56 calories burned, combined

Spooning got last place when it comes to helping couples get fit between the sheets, with just 56 calories burned between both partners during a 30-minute romp in this relaxed position.

WHEELBARROW, LEGS AKIMBO, SQUATTING AND LOTUS
Looking at gender differences, men had the highest potential for calorie burning when in the standing (198 calories), wheelbarrow (167 calories) and legs akimbo (153 calories) positions.



Women, on the other hand, had the highest calorie burning potential with squatting (188 calories), wheelbarrow (149 calories) and standing (145 calories).

Meanwhile, the lotus position placed third, with 287 calories burned, combined.

In the middle of the pack, doggy, missionary and cowgirl could all be found. 'Fan-favourite' doggy style burns 149 calories for men and 111 calories for women, a combined total of 260 calories.

COWGIRL AND REVERSE COW GIRL
Cowgirl and reverse cowgirl have the same calorie burning qualities, with 187 calories burned between both partners no matter which way you prefer to face.

Missionary scored slightly better, with 199 calories burned between both partners.

MISSIONARY HIP DIPS
Interestingly, women can potentially double the number of calories burned by adding a simple twist to vanilla-style missionary.

'Missionary hip dips' – tilting your hips up and forward – engages your core and strengthens your abs, which in turn can burn a lot more calories (102 calories) compared to the classic version (52 calories).
