I hope they turn around and come home! I saw firsthand the men from Alabama Power working 24/7 to restore power to Tuscaloosa after the tornado. And when I say after they were working before the tornado left our county.

Sometimes you have to know when to put politics down....Those boys in Jersey really need to get a clue.

Why ? They did and got away with the same thing during 9/11. Go back and read about how some of the most important pieces of steel from the WTC were sold for scrap immediately after the attack.

One more reason I got the hell outta there. At one point my buddy and I had so much word of mouth work we didn't have time for half of it. Didn't take long for "da boys" to figure out we were cutting into their pie.

Most of our neighbors here in this development are NY and NJ folks that left for the same reasons.

We offered to send our own TTC buses, workers from Public Works and Toronto Hydro to help. I wonder if they got rejected also.

NJ has very strict, and I do mean strict electrical code/training enforcement.

There are non-union line men electricians that are working in NJ, but all of them are employed by companies that have previously passed their electrical contractor's test.

And PA is extremely lax with their code laws in many counties.
PA is still on '06 NEC

The power companies all have mutual aid agreements with each other, to send line crews when one company needs extra help. I feel confident that the Alabama folks didn't just drive up there on a whim. They had to be requested by the NJ utility. If competency and training were an issue, then the NJ company would not have had a mutual aid agreement with the Alabama company to begin with. The fact that they did indicates that the NJ company feels that the Alabama linemen are competent to work on their system, so the whole credentials thing boils down to union strongarming, not core competency.

I have to give it to the union folks....they stood firm. Had they said, "hey, it's an emergency, we'll let this go", then they would be admitting that there is no value to union membership.

i'm with the AL boys. screw them, they don't need our help, fine, they can freeze in the dark for all i care.

rather like offering a beggar a sandwich when he's looking for food, and he turns you down as the bread is not rye, he doesn't like mayo, will only eat organic chicken salad.....fine, starve.

not that i've heard.

nor have i heard about Bloomie reaching into his deep pockets to lend a hand. he just wants to have the marathon run. 20,000 volunteers would make quite a dent cleaning up for a day instead of running in circles for 4 hours.

Curious that our bestest ally in the whole wide world, Israel, isn't sending help. Hell, half of the folks in NYC are MOT's.

Well, according to the New York Times, the head of the Iranian Red Crescent organization, Mahmud Mozaffar told the semiofficial Fars News Agency in Iran that they were "ready to help the flood stricken people of America." His men are on standby, ready to board planes as soon as the United States accepts their offer.

Also, in Pakistan, Hafiz Saeed, a terror suspect with $10 million bounty on his head, has offered his support and resources to the US.

On the whole, I think we should forego both of these offers.
