Default My 65

Thought I'd put up a few photos of my 65. For those that don't know, my father bought it new; I still have all the paperwork from when it was ordered and there's a whole different story behind why it was bought, but I won't get into that; along with the story behind me actually being here because of the car.

The car has roughly 250k+ miles on it. Dad did a bunch of autocross with it and took great care of it. The engine seized up in '84 and it sat for ~20 years while raising a family took priority. In 2003, he started working on it again only to find out a year later that he had Lou Gherig's disease. He and I got the engine back in it, he got it running and I painted it (was my first time painting a car). Unfortunately he wasn't able to drive it again after we got it on the road, but was able to take a few rides in it. He passed in 2006 and I was finally able to get the car up here this summer with the help of a neighbor.

Today was the first day in five years that it moved under it's own power. I took it around the block and was instantly greeted with the sound of the neighbor kids oohing and aahing over it. It still needs a lot of work, but driving it again was very nice.

It's has a decent amount of options to it (300hp, 3:08 posi rear, tele steering, black leather) and had knock offs (original Kelsey Hayes) and side pipes added within the year after it was bought. Dad removed the emblems, put a different air cleaner on, added the third tail lights (and removed the chrome) and different valve covers. I won't change a thing about it.

So yes, I'm one of those people who's father gave him a Corvette - but I'd gladly give it up for another five minutes with him.

At any rate, here's the photos.

Great to see you fulfilled your old man's wishes and got it back on the road. He's smiling for sure.

He must have painted the tail light housings black. It's part of the housing that hold them in there. Pretty hard to remove the chrome.

My 66 was marina blue when I bought it, and I added a hardtop. I really miss that car. Those KH wheels are worth a ton by the way, as you probably know.

2 paint jobs and flares later......white pearl paint.

Nice job getting it going again !...
My dad gave me his too....Although not as old or rare, a Corvette from my dad, all the same. It has sentimental value that you just can't put a price on...

Good... GOD that car is gorgeous.

Looks just like my '76 Stingray (except for the chrome "Stingray" emblem").

The tail light housings are painted the same color as the car - they were frenched.

He bought a full set (plus spare) of the KH wheels for $150 in '65.

Nothing short of not being able to put food on the table will make me sell this car.

I actually got to see this car in person this summer. I love that color on the mid years, and it's the first time I actually got to look closely at KO wheels.

I'm glad to see you got the brakes back together.
