Perhaps another scenario?

Might not like this one but.......

They met, had an affair, she left her marriage (always in the back of his mind). She was very controlling and the "power of the p" was very strong. Dan had her on an incredibly high pedestal! Dan loved her but she didn't necessarily feel the same amount of love toward him. So, he tried everything he could do to please her. To the point of hocking everything he owned, including his retirement account. Years went by without telling her what and how he was acquiring the toys (she didn't want to know). All along trying to get her to love him equally. She didn't, and perhaps quite verbal about it. He then tries to show her how much he loves her by overcompensating on line in public view (where we come in, with the same unaccepting feelings).

Retirement was the breaking point. He lost some of the income flow (lesser than his check each week). The deep fear that she might find another like she did with him, along the debt from all the toys. He comes clean and tells her the truth. Now she goes ballistic, as you might expect. But stays.

That final day they have a terrible argument, she tells him "I've had it, I'm leaving". Dan ponders all day what the hell can I do now? I'm in debt way over my head, my wife is leaving me I've sold everything I owned, nobody loves me, etc.

In his mind he blamed her for everything. He was crazy in love with her and "did it all for her". Now angry, brokenhearted, confused, with nothing left (in his mind).

At that point he felt there was only one way out.

Possibly?

And again, unlikely IMHO.

But for the sake of argument, suppose this is correct.

Well, then what he did would not only make him out to be a coward, but a
P ussy whipped coward as well.

Still no excuse for offing your wife.
Ever.

Yeah, he bought himself several Corvettes and a Harley which she never drove and left her to drive an old Monte Carlo in an attempt to please her. Makes perfect sense.

They traded the Monte Carlo in for a Equinox (72 months) .
He was disappointed with the mileage, so they traded again for an Impala or Malibu.

This could be a contributing factor but I also think if I can't have her no one else will played a part...

No, not putting it all on her! But not without her contribution or lack of to the relationship?
