Default VB LS Motor Experts..Need your help.

OK, so I pulled both valve covers, very easy to do. An inspection of both sides did not reveal any needle bearing cap failures or valve lash caps being torn up, both of which are documented issues on the LS7 motor.

What I did find was a large number of rocker arms that are easily moved from left to right, as shown in the video. On the passenger side, it's 6 of 8 move and the driver's side is 5 of 8.

What should I know? Should I just go ahead and replace all 16 rockers while I have it open?

TIA

How do the springs look?

Pull one from the loose rockers.

That is normal. The ones you indicated being tight are under spring tension (valves open), so they won't be able to move like that.

Thanks! That makes sense.

Happy and Sad that everything looks OK. It means I have not found the source of the metal in my oil pan.

I thought hydraulic lifters keep the rockers tight all the time unless the lifters leak down when the engine is not running.

I would use the term snug, not tight....you know the score, loosen till clicking then 1/4 turn down, another way is to feel the pushrod turning in your fingers, snug down till pushrod cant turn, then another 1/4 turn, this last is with the lifters on the heel of the cam, obviously....

Had the $$$ I would go LS in a nanosecond, but it's too much $ and time/effort for the gains involved, I suspect....
