Default Could be a fun 3rd truck...id need him to come down a few hundred on the price though

Found a 1994 K2500 Silverado (I prefer Sierras..but whatever), with the TBI 454, 4L80E, 9.25 front end and Corporate 14FF rear, 8 lug all the way around.

Its got 151K miles

He says it has an exhaust leak at one of the manifolds, but runs right, pulls fine, and has a gooseneck ball in the bed. Body looks like a clean example of a GMT400 3/4 ton. Long bed, reg cab.

He's asking 4500 firm...and it hasnt sold in a month of advertising.

I have 1 reserve on it...it has no factory tachometer, and I cant drive a vehicle without a tachometer...I hate to put in a big aftermarket job, makes the interior look cheap to me, and redoing it to be a factory style is a pain in the ass....so that kinda sucks, but its RED..and 4X4...and a big block.

Id like to be a buyer around 3500, any more than that and I dont think id be comfortable with it being the old grille style, and the old interior.

What yall think?

Thats where Ive been at on it. at 3500, if I dont like it, I could probably shine it up, some cab lights on it, show it some love and get 4000-4250 for it after a while.

3500...im comfortable.

I would be worried about the entire drive-train (trans, rear, u-joints,)etc...if someone was pulling a gooseneck trailer with it. They put some stupid weight in trailers like that. Does it have a trans cooler ?

Im sure it does, its probably setup like my 97 C3500, it has a PS cooler, Radiator, Trans cooler, aux pusher fan, condensor, and some other little cooler....its busy as hell up front.

I pulled a, probably 22 foot gooseneck sleeper/horse trailer a few weeks ago with my 3500, same trans, rearend, and engine (except a few more ponies) and it has 250K on it, all original...and it didnt have any problems that I could sense..probably 8500lbs on it.

But its a 1ton vs a 3/4 ton...so there is a step down in what it can accomplish.

It tries my patience at times, but it loves gas. I need ot put some damn tires on the thing and drive it more but I know ill never put alot of miles on itso I hate to invest 800 in tires, knowing full well Ill likely never put 5000 miles on it.

The Dually is just hard to drive sometimes. Its wide as hell, and the westcoast mirrors are challenging, and its 22 feet long tip to tail. But damn that Vortec 454 is a monster when you wind it up. Something about a big block and 4.10 gears..it just gets with it when you stomp on it.

The Z71 is my DD, much shorted, much more nimble, but gutless when it comes to towing a 16 foot trailer loaded with mowers.

Those pictures are the ones I put on Craigslist.

I listed it around 9:00 PM and received a call around 9:30 PM from a guy who wanted to look at it right away. He gave a $1k deposit at 10:30 PM that same evening. By morning I had 4 other messages about the truck, some at 5:00 AM. IMHO, Craigslist is one of mans greatest achievements.

I was asking about $2k over KBB, guy didnt even try to negotiate. I'm very meticulous about maintenance and cleanliness with my vehicles. It often pays off at resale time.

Actually, GMT400's with diesels dont draw big $$ like their owners would like to think they should..models with the diesel usually start around 4000 and will gladly sit there until the price dips to the high 2000's, unless it is a low miles, meticulous truck with a new pump and turbo. Especially a 94..had a different pump and turbo that are more $$ to replace. I could have had a number of 94-98 6.5 Turbo models like this one, for under 3000...but the 6.5 is just not desirable.

Its gutless, weak, had ALOT of problems including crank failure, block failure, head failure, pump failure and pump driver failure...

But just like the Ford 6.0's of the early 2000's there are a few exceptions to the norm. I know of a couple 6.5's that are in the 200-300k miles with only minor repairs.

Others with the 6.5's have usually replaced them with 7.4 gas engines.

Was there a rear dual-wheel option for that series?

Decent looking truck. Be patient, and you might get lucky. I've had buyers piss me off by low balling me right after the car hit the market. I ignore them after that. Give it a week or two before making a low offer.

Yeah, 88-2000 GMT-400's in the 3500 class were available in a DRW setup, here is my 97 C3500. I wish it was 4X4...

Can't you do a bone-yard cluster swap on it?

I did it to my '97 Blazer. Used the cluster out of a '95. swapped the odometer from the '97 into the donor cluster so I could retain actual miles. The older units (from the 90s) still have the tumbler wheel odometers, so it's easy to swap out.

Cost me $65.00 for the donor, and 2 hours of work.

Its a simple swap up top on the dash...just I think 4 screws and the cluster pops out as an assembly, and a new cluster with a tach pops right in its place.

The problem is, the harness itself, lacks the wiring, and the "block" where the cluster plugs in, lacks the terminals, to power the and operate the tach.

My former boss did it, and it ended up in a mess with half the gauges no longer functioning..
