Default Simpleman home theater update 6-28

Theater is only a few days of work away from being finished.

1st post for those who missed the early days of this job.
https://www.thevettebarn.com/forums/o...te-3-22-a.html

Carpet is in but installer can't get to it until 7-8.
Went with Milky Way for the center and rear platform and using the dark gold (from the inside of the stars) for border and overflow into the game room.

Went to Philly to get the speakers from one of the few Paradigm dealers in PA.
Will be another day or two until the center and side surrounds arrive.

Sneak preview of the screen size. We had to reduce to 165" from 180" because of height/stage restrictions. Still a nice size screen for a room that is 19' X 36'.

I'll post full room shots with lighting etc when the carpet goes in next week.
Can't wait for it to be done..... I've got a rear deck to build.

Scott

We watched Star Trek (Abrams 1st 2009) the other night but I couldn't figure out how to switch to DTS HD Master. It just defaulted to DTS Surround so channels 6 and 7 were dead.
It was getting late so we just went with the side surrounds.

Figured it out this morning over coffee. The new Denon (4311 Ci) is worlds different than my old 3806.

Official opening night movie, I'm not sure.

I was going to throw that old Curl Parasound (HCA 3800) on for the fronts, but the Denon is plenty of power for the front stage I think.

I can always use it for the dedicated 2 channel room and upgrade the rest of that system. Just don't want to throw money at too many things.
I'll probably wind up using it in the upstairs theater and use better fronts so I can kinda have the best of both worlds.

It's looking great, Scott! I love Paradigm speakers and have been fighting the urge to splurge on a set for the old hi-fi. I had almost forgotten about them until you posted a picture. Now I've got the fever again. Thanks a lot, bro...

Their performance is tough to beat for the money.

You're welcome for the extra motivation

I would throw the dedicated amp to the fronts. You know the fronts are the most important.
Leave the Denon power for the effects stuff.
Cmon man you know it's all about headroom and the Parasound will drive and sound 10x better then the Denon.

If I do that, then I'll bi-amp those Monitor 9s. The 12 gauge I ran in wall should be satisfactory for cinema audio but will really wake them up.

Just feels like a bit of a waste to throw a nice amp at such basic speakers.
I have some interesting old stuff in storage from my buddy who went through a divorce.
Old Carver 2x380, NAD, Parasound, AMC etc.

With all due respect...Asshole!
Bi-amping is always recommended especially since you are doing all this work.

I've never seen a reason to run seperate amps with "home" surrounds/rears/effects/ IMHO only the fronts, center(important) and of course subs need them.

In the end do as much now because you will always be wondering later what you are missing.

If I lived nearer, I'd absolutely lend you a hand.

My buddy who helped me with all the trim work and electric (son of a German master carpenter) is thinking about doing theaters as part of his business.

He does exceptional work.

One of the last John Curl designs for Parasound.
Upgraded power cord to boot.

He sold it to me for $800 a couple years ago.

I was using it to power the Polk RTi A9s in the upstairs movie/stereo room.

It got too heavy for the tv stand (73" Mitsu basic) so I took it out to store and was going to use in the downstairs theater but decided to use the Denon 4311..... Until you started

I wanted ti bi-amp the fronts anyway and that's a perfect piece for the job.
Although it makes me want to step up to the sig or ref series for the front stage.
I guess we're even now.
Scott
