Default Another increase in insurance.. WTF

My USAA insurance went up another couple hundred a month. They said it was due to inflation, repairs etc when if/or comes time to fix cars.
I have 5 cars, all but one paid off.. Difference between full and liability isnt much.
But, I am paying way too much..
The biggest issue will be customer service. USAA does take care of issues quick..
And I have my homeowners with them too, so a little more discount there.

My Florida home insurance doubled!

Fortunately, I have a buddy who is an insurance agent, and he found another carrier to keep my rates where they were last year.

i had to drop USAA. One year my rates doubled with no accidents, tickets, or claims and that was just for my truck. They said it was to cover the cost of all the other claims.

now i have two vehicles, full coverage, and same deductible from State Farm for less than what my truck originally was.

I have both my house and auto insurance coming up for renewal in August.

Think I will sit down when I open up the envelope/s from the insurance company!

The value of assets against assets has not really changed, other than from supply and demand and changing technology.

These examples are just rough numbers, but close enough to make the point:

- A thousand years ago you could buy a decent horse with 2 ounces of gold. You still can.

- A hundred years ago you could buy a nice tailored suit with an ounce of gold. You still can.

- Fifty-some years ago you could buy 10 gallons of gasoline with an ounce of silver. You still can.

The dollar is not an asset -- it is a debt instrument; it has no intrinsic value, it's just a promissory note. Our entire monetary system is based on debt.

The more money government spends than it takes in makes each dollar less valuable, so it takes more dollars to buy the same thing. This is inflation. It is not caused by businesses, it is caused by government and those who run it.

Rising prices -- currently -- are a reaction to inflation: "Too much money chasing too few goods." But of course, in true Marxist tradition, politicians will ALWAYS blame rising prices on businesses.

I have USAA for home and auto. They made a mistake on one of my properties and had the square footage listed at a third of what it was. When they corrected it, my premium doubled. I asked them what it would be if I made the deductible $5000 instead of $500, and it cut the premium to below what I was paying before. So I changed the deductible to $5k and all is good.

Auto insurance in FL is keeping up with HO INS increases.
Most insurance agency owners make 2x vs cardiac surgeon.

I'm sure the premiums are raising in part to they total so many vehicles now as they're not designed to be repaired nor do insurance companies want the liability associated.
A minor fender bender repar cost is so high now and used parts are frowned upon being used. Hgh dollar new OEM everything isn't helping.
I wonder what EV insurance and repair costs are... I bet a new harness for one of those is outrageous.

Excellent post and a good illustration of why gold is suddenly over $2,300.

a good reminder of one of the reasons I'm living in an apartment at my office now. Sold my waterfront home late last year!

I agree. Bruze has the 'big picture' nailed and is better than most on breaking it down for simpletons like myself. One reason I have many friends in his age group. They grew up in a better era and learned the ropes.

I can't see the point of auto or home insurance anymore. If they have to pay out, they so severely undervalue it that its almost useless. Better to just save some, get loans for repairs snd fling yourself onto FEMA to recover. Everyone I've ever known in a diaster setting did better through FEMA than their own insurance.

Interesting, I've had USAA 43 years now. My rates have been fine and will continue to be. My guess on your rates is for the most part where you live. The entire eastern area on down to Florida is a simple magnet for property damage.

You're just going to have to deal with it or leave. I've been there, seen it and no thank you.

We now have a home from estate disposition. (We live in NM) in Del Rey Beach. My SIL is buying us out. Nice home in a gated community. She can have it for all we care.

I had USAA for several years but then they jacked my home/auto rate by 25% in one year. We've had Amica for 10 years and our rates went DOWN this year!

I agree.
I’m thinking about going with a liability policy and self insure the structure.

I am pretty ignorant to all the different ways to get my stuff fixed in case of emergency. FEMA, never heard of AMICA, brokers for insurance.....

When I had my serious car accident near Orlando in 2016 with an undocumented, uninsured "new citizen" slammed into me, my lawyer said that close to 1/3 of people in the area were uninsured. In Florida you can get a pay-by-the month car insurance policy, register your care for two years then stop paying and Florida should, but doesn't , collect your license plates. So legal appearing vehicles are all over the roads with no insurance.

So uninsured motorist payouts become massive and rates go up, but hey 10,000 illegals a day are sneaking into the US just looking for jobs and to participate in our wonderful society ? Right ?
