OK I-95 and I-4 in Florida have been in the list of the top 5 most dangerous roads IN THE COUNTRY for several years - e.g. most fatalities/1,000 miles. On top of that central Florida has the higheset percentage of uninsured drivers IN THE COUNTRY; its closing in on 1/3; e.g. 1 in 3 drivers around Orlando are uninsured. Add to that the aggressive asinine driving by Norther transplant and commuting on Florida roads is close to being its own theme park ride.

I just drove from Nevada City CA to Fresno two days ago, which is a 220 mile run down HWY 99....and there were some truly reckless drivers in the Sacramento area all the way down through Manteca. 120 MPH rice rocket cars weaving in and out, super bikes doing wheelies while splitting lanes at 100 mph or more, etc. Truly Mad Max shit.
I blame the democratic entitlement credo, as well as cheap, very fast cars and bikes. In my day, Mustangs could maybe do 120 mph and it took awhile. Fast cars did 13.5 quarter miles. Now we have 35 year old 'kids' driving 9 and 10 second cars and 180 mph Mustangs that cost peanuts. There's a Florida-based youtuber named Jonathan Harder who posts videos of him and his buddies going 180 mph on the FLA highways running from cops, etc. It's insane. |

I don't know about other states that I95 runs through but it's accident after accidentnin NC. There's a flat straight stretch around Smithfield that is a constant wreck zone. Ive seen one just about every time drove through the area. I take the back roads around that area. Doesn't matter how many cops are on patrol it's 95 on 95 and drive it like you stole it.

Same old regurgitated BS from poster who does this with regularity.
FL has a lot of people, a lot of cars, a lot of idiot transplants, a lot of blue hairs, a lot of young punks,,, it comes with the territory. I pay about $80/month for full coverage, $500K liability, per car, a C7Z06 and 2010 CTS-V, pretty damn cheap. I have driven here for 40 years, yep we have a lot of traffic, I view it as a challenge, NEVER hit anyone, only been hit once, bad drivers attract accidents, skilled drivers do not. I cannot control FL's population explosion, nor its huge tourism swarm, I can control where and when I drive, and how I drive, if you cannot handle it then stay out. Thankfully the OP will never move here because of our traffic and our heat, for that I am thankful, I hope both get worse for those considering FL as their next home. BTW, all drivers suck, in every city and in every state, the greatest density of people adds to this. I have mad, mad skills, so no matter where you go I have learned that if there are people on the roads they will piss you off. Lastly, drive fast, really fast, I hit triple digits daily, the less time you spend on the road will lessen your frustrations, and lessen your chances of both being ticketed and getting in a crash. |

CO is in the list, but mostly driven by car theft in the "larger" cities and hail risks. I've had two new (< 1y/o) corporate vehicles totaled by hail while parked at the airport.

Well - as far as getting old....
When I was a teenager riding (motorcycles at 3 digits, helmetless) there were one helluva lot less people on the road and they were better drivers. People weren't distracted diddling themselves, their infotainment systems or cell phones and cars' mechanicals weren't as bulletproof. Tailgate somebody at 60 mph two car lengths back then and a rabbit could run in front of the lead car, brakes could lock up, an axle could come loose or a tire come off. You damned sure hung back in that era if you had half a brain. As far as controlling when and where you drive, my 2016 wreck was on a quiet Sunday morning in suburban Florida on a bright June day on a straight road, and uninsured, illegal immigrant pulled dead out in front of me. |

I prefer the Appalachians though, specifically the Blue Ridge. Oldest mountains, and far fewer liberals and mosquitoes. |

That's why they infect my region during the summer, to escape the shitty environment that they invested in.

On the contrary. Very glad to have grown up in the '60's and '70's and experience the pop culture and America post-war first hand. No AIDS, no stupid laws, no tattooed women---just big hair, tight skirts, mini-skirted stewardesses, great music, great food, no insipid, lip-injected bubbleheads posting selfies, no perpetually electronically distracted people running into you, and no cameras everywhere. No LGBT and racist agenda or socialism being pushed by the administration. White men on television who weren't gay. Good Times.
Actually, I wish I was even older. Delighted that I got to live in a real America. It would suck to be under 50, IMO. |

FL has many auto, and homeowners', insurance issues, doubt the problems will ever get fixed, as the lobbyists have deep pockets.
BUT, if you can eliminate the $10K PIP BS, and remove lawyers through a mediation clause on every auto policy, maybe HO INS policies too, could be a start. Stiffer penalties for insurance fraud would also be helpful. |
