Cancelled my home phone today

Well, after problems with my cell phone not charging, even after i replaced the battery, I finally had to get a new cell. $ 300+ later, and now that my old chargers and cords don't fit the new cell, I have a reliable phone again, but realized how much I need a backup.

So I called to restore the home phone. But wait. There's a connection fee I wasn't told about, and I also wasn't told restoring the service I had would now be about $ 35 a month MORE than I was paying. Told them I'd think about it, but wasn't happy.

Called back next day, they say ''we will give you the home phone and internet for $ 10 LESS than I was paying if I will agree to let them connect me with fiber, meaning I schedule a time for them to **** up the yard AND come inside the house. I said OK.

I also looked at just getting a cell phone to replace the land line, but I can't port the same number over unless I own the number already. So no matter what I did, I had to reconnect with the phone company anyway. Assuming everything goes well, I've had enough trauma with phones for a while.

It's been a business line for over 20 years. Most folks also have my cell, but maybe some don't. Plus, when I lose the cell, I can always use the cordless house phone to dial the cell and walk around listening for it!

I guess I could have just tried to do without, but the peace of mind having it will be worth it, as long as those ****in' Indian scammers have given up dialing a number that hasn't been in service for a few weeks. That I don't miss at all.

Don't get me started on porting over a number. Since 2007 I have been in dispute about a number that I wanted moved to a new carrier. It appears that when I moved from my old house to my new house, someone screwed up and my billing area and my calling area are not a match. That has left me unable to do ANYTHING with my service without surrendering my number that I have had since 1987.

At best I would be streaming a movie from Roku and futzing around on the VB. I don't download big stuff, so how will 'fiber' help my situation? I can stream movies just fine and am satisfied with my speed doing web surfing. I ain't tryna run 6 TV's at once while downloading War and Peace all at the same time, yo'.
