Default Road Trip with the Hummer

Took the Hummer for its first longer distance trip yesterday. Round trip was 310 miles. I stopped once to top off because the trip advisor was showing about 5% power left by the time I was going to be home. Stopped because, 1) I really needed a Bio break, 2) I hadn't eaten since the night before and 3) Just to piss off all the nay sayers of EV's.
Took a grand total of 36 minutes to bring the truck from 32% charge to 95% charge. Time enough to use the facilities, grab a bite and get some munchies for the final trip home. Arrived home with 42% charge, cost me $7.35 to fill up in the garage and $26 at the charger. I'll be glad when they open the Tesla chargers and we get the adapters. I think I'll be able to up the charge rate some. It is capable of 350KW charging.

I know everyone has their own opinion of EV's and ICE's. Like I've said before, I have the Hellcat and will have it till I can't anymore. I enjoy the EV, it is a different experience and different type drive. When I drove the Hellcat Friday to work, it took a block or two to get adjusted to a transmission shift again and the transfer of power thru the different gears. I kept pushing the brake down harder at stoplights thinking the HC was going to move because of the sound. Took me a mile or two to refocus my driving skills on that one.

Some interesting things I learned on the trip.
- When plotting the trip with the onboard navigation, it asks if you want to add charging points.
- If you add the charging points you can set up the batteries to precondition which increases the rate of charge and get's you back on the road quicker.
- Allowing the Super Cruise to drive takes getting used to. When it makes those lane changes to pass slower traffic or move over to let people merge, the first few initial times is a pucker factor.

Enjoy, glad you are liking it, I have no desire to go EV and the Government should not force anyone to either.

So, for comparison, a 310 mile trip in my SUV @ 20MPG would cost me $43 VS your $33.35. Of course my time at a fuel station would be 10 min VS your 35 min.

So, the true argument should be how you value your time on a trip.

I live in Texas. 310 miles is a trip to the store.

That's a lot of math.

My brain hurts this morning but how does this math add up? If you would have had 5% left when you arrived home, that means you would have needed 27% of your battery power to get home. You topped off to 95% from 32% and ended up using almost double (53%) to get home.

What am I missing here?

ICE stories would be one paragraph long and be all about the destination, not about the trip.

EV math. As electrons are burned while driving, the car gets lighter and becomes even more efficient.

The only thing I don't understand is the use of an apostrophe in the word "gets".

No ****ing way. Life is too short to add the stress factors of Range Anxiety.

I simply check my tires and fluids, fill up the tank, and GO.

And to save more power and increase the range, you can always drop weight by letting 20 pounds of air out of each tire. That's 80 pounds.

It depends, Winter air has more density than summer air

I guess those are the sacrifices you have to make for owning an EV. Glad you're enjoying it!

That is effing genius!

Do the spare too, and make it 100 lbs.

I drive my truck 400-500 miles on trips. Give absolutely zero thought to where I’m going to get gas. Spend 2 minutes to get from 5% to 100% full. Continue on my way once again giving zero thought to my next stop for fuel.

Once EV’s get to the same level of convenience as ICE, then maybe I’ll consider getting one. For now, I hope you enjoy your EV…..
