Cold outside

Took the dogs for a little morning walk, -18 with wind chill around -30. Supposed to be colder tomorrow morning. High today -5. Braved the cold yesterday to cook a roast on the smoker. I turned around and looked at the dogs laying in the snow chewing on a bully stick and wondering why it was so warm out. This is their kind of weather for sure.
I wondered when we moved to IA why they had heaters in the garage, I know why now.

Today's high is going to be 32 degrees. Tomorrow night it is going down to 11.

I postponed it, and not because it's a holiday.

Weird that ANY dog would like this weather.

Was 10 degrees when I took my dogs out this morning. The dogs loved it, but way too cold for me.

It rarely gets down to zero or below here, but when it does, my GSD does NOT want to come inside.

Mine are retrievers and I think the cold weather triggers their instinct to hunt.

Some dogs are built for extreme cold. Mine live outdoors all the time and love sleeping in the snow.

Overnight low of +8, is +11 now. Pretty normal for January.

It's been overcast a lot, but it's clear today. If it stays that way, the later sunset will be very noticeable. We've gained 20 minutes of daylight, mostly at the end of the day.

The arctic blast hits us tomorrow. I will have to run water to keep pipes from freezing. House is raised so pipes are exposed under the house. Fixed a couple spots that were missing insulation. I will start a fire and hunker in for a couple days monitoring the pipes.

Yesterday the sun did not show up, it dipped into the high 60s, last night I had to put on this to walk the doggies.

Our Bernese Mountain Dogs live for this type weather. We are almost at 0 degrees finally. Supposed to be down to -15 tonight with wind chills near -40. Great day to go to work and then take the pups to the vets. I think Wednesday we get near or above freezing before the temps drop and more snow on Thursday! Snowblower is getting a work out this year.
I laughed, went to Home Depot today to pick up some stuff and noticed every one of their snow blowers were gone. Just out of curiosity asked the associate when they would get more in and he said about a week or so. Reminds me of the Hurricanes when we lived in VA Beach. Major run on the generators and about 3 months later you could buy a slightly used or still new one for half the cost.

The coldest it's been here this season, so far, was this morning when it only got down to +8.

And not enough snow so far to bother mentioning.
