TTix setup on an 433-460 ci aluminum LSX tall deck block (not out yet but coming soon) with 6 bolt ET 245 heads. Should make 1000-1200 HP with not a ton of boost.

22-25K by the time your done. This includes a BIG clutch but not a built rear and tranny. Add another 5k for that or another 6k if its an auto.

Since our cars are now worth < $20k now, that seems like a fantastic investment...

It would be fun to put that powertrain in a Factory Five GTM though. :auto:

It sounds like a fun way to reward one's self and have fun with the money spent...But unless your build will set some of record that allows you to sell the car profitably (including all you put into it), and/or bank enough in won races to compensate...it's still just a money pit, otherwise known as a poor investment.

That said, I really like Kevin's idea too.

Say you buy a new Z06 for $7x,xxx. You put $25k in the motor. I get it. But to put $25k in the motor of a $20k car?

There's a company called HPA that made a crazy TT kit for the VW R32. The kit was more than the car itself. It did top out at over 200 mph though.

It's not tough at all to put more into the engine/drivetrain than what the car is worth. The cheaper the car, the more that applies.

There were $50k TT 427 engine packages being sold when the C5 was still the new and current model too.

Buying a <$20k C5 and dumping a mega-expensive engine into it might be more cost-effective than buying a new Z06/ZR-1, I agree....but it being a good investment, it definitely is not.

I have a C6 not a C5 but I decided to go with the MagnaCharger TVS1900 for the stump pulling power on the street. I am not done yet, other upgrades in work and planned. Pulley upgrade done, intercooler installed, meth kit in work now and I will post here when I get some time off from work.

If I was to sell the Vette I wouldn't get but a small amount of return that I have put into it, I decided I wanted to invest in fun.

I would basically do what I already have.

Maybe a 402ci or a 427ci SC

Pretty much sounds like my set up, minus the intercooler.

What about a 416ci LS3? Why SC over TT?

No reason for SC over TT. I do like the top mounted TT systems out there

Plumbing two sets of pipes, heat, and cost effectiveness. Priced a TT setup lately?

I am hoping for a 427ci LS3 in a year or so. I went with the SC instead of TT because most of my driving is street performance. I think TT would be better on the drag strip where it can be spooled up before launching. Hard to complain about any SC or TT, each type has it pros and cons, they all kick azz.

Default I like TT

My 383cc Lingenfelter TT (see the red car in my sig) is a pretty nice set up. Spools quick and makes good power. Basicly 700rwhp and 800 ft/lbs of torque. I am interested to see how it does in the 1 mile shoot out in March in California.

The bigger motors don't work as well with FI. Less room for head gasket material between cyl, and the strokes too long.

Smaller motors.......

BTW, can't beat the low end of the PDs. Roger's makes 700 ft pounds at about 2500 rpm. Which equates to abso-freegin-useless on the street LOL. But it sho is funn!!
