Default "I don't care if I get arrested. I'm saving this baby."

Good Job Lady!

Quote:
Woman breaks windshield to rescue baby from hot car | www.ktvu.com

SAN ANTONIO —

When a San Antonio woman noticed a baby left alone in a hot car, she ignored the warnings from bystanders and a security guard.

Angela Radtke smashed through the car windshield with a tire iron and crawled through the hole to unlock the door.

"The security guard was yelling that I could possibly be arrested for breaking the window," Radtke told KENS.

But she said she was thinking, "I don't care if I get arrested. I'm saving this baby."

She very well might have. Officials looked at security footage and found the baby was left in the hot car for 40 minutes. The 1-year-old was taken to a hospital and treated for dehydration.

Radtke's brave actions are quickly making headlines – with most pointing out she was warned by onlookers and the security guard to leave the situation alone.

With the 27 child vehicular heatstroke deaths in 2014 so far, many of those cases making national news, it's surprising others were reluctant to help her – and those who were afraid Radtke would be breaking the law probably didn't realize she'd be protected by one.

The basics of the Texas "Good Samaritan" Law are explained as this: "If you voluntarily attempt to help someone who is in an urgent situation as a result of an accident or other emergency, then you are protected from any liability for damages that may result from your care."

Radtke was questioned by officials after the incident but was released without charges shortly after. The father of the child said he forgot the baby was in the car, and he's now being charged with child endangerment.

I never will understand how one can "forget" a child in a car. How vapid and self centered are you that you forget about the saftey and welfare of your flesh and blood.

Tire iron, large flashlight, axe, unloaded firearm....

Lots of options. Wanna sue me? Fine. Your kid is my defense. You can replace a window, not a kid.

Yes, I have all of the above in my truck.

Not that I'm excusing the father in any way, but...

I'm wondering how many less children were left in vehicles before mandatory passenger seat airbags forced child seats to the back seat...

If it saves the life of one child...

While you may have a point, it's still more a case of total morons breeding.

weve had soem serious flooding around here the last week. one part of town got up to 5 inches in 3 hours. thats probably more than half our annual average. needless to say, shit was crazy.

a little old lady either drove or got washed into a drainage ditch. cops were called etc. 3 guys were heading in to save her an the cops would not let them. witnesses say the argument got so heated that the guys left for fear of being arrested. the lady drowned.

Now that's just friggin SAD!

I'd have been tempted to tell them, Just shoot me, I'm going to help her...

Do you have a link to that story by chance?

The windshield?.....It's a lot easier to blow out a side window (farthest away from kid). All you need is a quick blow to the corner and it'll blow out with a bang. The windshield is hard to break and then to crawl in?....that's a lot of effort for nothing.
Thank God she did it....even the hard way.

Often, the windshield is cheaper to replace than the side glass. Doesn't make sense to me, but them's the facts.

True. Although glass replacement shops sometimes have trouble with replacing a windshield, it's still a lot cheaper and easier to replace than a side window.

I hardly think that the replacement cost to the owner was her primary thought on picking the windshield rather than a side window...

She probably thought the glass from a side window may have hit the baby, and went for the glass furthest away.

Thank goodness she acted though.

Oh, I agree. I was just joining in the aside from bill_daniels about the replacement cost of a windshield vs. a side window. I was not faulting the woman in any way.
