No hating here. I agree with you. Those of us with fewer family obligations can be more flexible. The Monday holiday gives me the opportunity to save a vacation day tho.

I did not get to go, but the weekend and location are all fine with me. It was just a matter of not having time to prep on my part.

it is a car forum; though. I imagine there are a lot less non-Corvette owners on VB - than on CF.

A guy in Indiana tried a second Great Lakes Regional CI... about a year or two after the one I put on for CF. There was no Corvette factory there (obviously); but he did arrange for a short cruise to an automotive museum... that had quite a few Corvettes on display. It was great !

I would hope that any BR is "themed"... as a Corvette (or at least a car related) gathering.

There is a great race track in Vegas, as well as a couple of excellent museums, and lots of other car-oriented stuff too...
Just sayin'...

Vegas is easy to get in and out of, as well as being a cheaper airport to get to, in terms of fares. And Vegas is one of the few places that, even of you fly in, you don't need a rental car. (Any of the site around there, such as Hoover Dam, have companies that offer transportation to and from.)

For those of us that can't drive in, the closest major airport to BG is Nashville. It's not that convenient.

It may sound selfish, but after 10 years (+/-) of CIs and 3 years of Barn Raisings being out east, I think it's time to plan an event further west.

Maybe there could be 4-6 regional Barn Raisin's at various times and regions throughout the year depending on the climate and other conditions for those regions. These would be convienient to everyone in that region of the country and then maybe a national gathering somewhere in the middle of the country in the fall to top it all off.

I'd be okay with it being on a different weekend......having it fall on Memorial Day, and especially when Dixie cooks, it means I don't get to spend my b-day weekend in the N. Ga. Mountains with my family, like I have just about every year since I was 15. I wouldn't mind getting that ritual back.

I would be up for Vegas.
Not sure how many people would drive (we would fly unless we decided to make a full week trip) Probably have a much higher percentage of fly ins but I know we could still have a ton of fun

I agree that we need to consider revamping the location of the next BR but would like to point out that the Memorial Day weekend, as a 3-day weekend, is ideal for those that have to drive a significant distance. I understand that it is traditionally a "family event" holiday and people have conflicting claims on the time.

Using Memorial Day as has been done in the past, then if the events are on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, participants then have Sunday and Monday to drive back home. If you can make it in one day (say the 697 miles to Northern Virginia) then you have Monday in which to wind down. I don't think that many people will drive more than 400 miles for a two day event on a standard 2-day weekend. Drive to the location on Thursday, events on Friday and Saturday and drive home on Sunday.

If we go with this smaller venue then it brings us back to holding multiple smaller events scattered throughout the country.

Memorial Day weekend is a deal-breaker for me. My former car club has a huge MD weekend event right in my backyard. Last night I walked to the country club where there were fifty Corvettes parked on the lawn while dinner was served. Earlier yesterday 80+ Corvettes were in the MD parade on main street in our small town. Today I was at an all Corvette car show in that town.

Although I don't own a Corvette anymore, this weekend is always my annual chance to reconnect with all my old Corvette friends I made over the years. As much as I would like to meet many of you, I can't pass up an event that is so close by.

Since I live in California, I would like to see BR on the west coast, but I realize there are more barners in the south and the east. Maybe we could at least do a regional event closer to here.

MrPeabody's idea of a regional thing sounds good to me. I, for one, still on the road touring the country (27th day now) would not go to the west coast, nor anyone there to the east coast.

Instead of the traditional Memorial Day weekend, maybe a weekend in April, were there aren't any big travel days. Weather may be a little chilly, but we all have Corvette jackets...

For the east coast, mid-Atlantic, south, or Appalachian area, maybe somewhere in NC, SC, or GA. Just a suggestion.

It just dawned on me that it might be a good west coast regional event to come here and participate in the event I described above. We have four Indian Casinos here for those that like to gamble, and three of them have hotels at reasonable prices. We have Clear Lake, the largest natural lake in California with great fishing and watercraft rentals. The event I described above also features a winery poker run on Saturday leading up to dinner at the country club. All the events are over on Sunday, which leaves Monday for a travel day home. I'll try and find a link to some pics...
