Default Ok....this is weird!!!!!

Driver's side rear wheel from Scarlet (my c6.)

I went for new tires last week, and the guys called me into the shop to look at something. Never a good thing, right?!

But what the heck?????

The four bulges are NOT evenly placed on the wheel.

Any ideas as to what might have caused this? Anyone ever seen this on wheels before?

The bulges go IN from this angle. So they are bulges INTO the inside of the wheel.

*****Updated in post 65 to thank bradc6 for sending a wheel to me to replace this one!!!

Weird. Never seen that before. Did the tire shop give you any grief about mounting the new tire?

Since Scarlet is soooo low, running over anything big enough to do that damage would totally tear up her underside, I'd think, wouldn't yall?

I didn't think to have them check the front wheel on that side, as I was only getting rear tires. I am going back to have them check it, too.

They did mount my new tire, as I rode in perfectly fine on that wheel, just with very little tread left on the tire.

But they told me they had no idea if the wheel was safe.

Sounds like an opportunity for a new set of HRE's.

I have seen that from pot holes when tires are low on pressure.

I'm sure I've hit a few potholes, but I don't run around with the tires low on pressure, and it seems the Discount Tire guys would have recognized it if that were the case, doesn't it?

I've never seen that on a wheel that would still hold air.

That's crazy.

Is this the first time you got the rears replaced? Are you sure they weren't like that when you got it?

I have seen that before with C6 wheels. A tire shop a friend worked at showed me how hesitant they were with C6 wheels. Took me in back to see a few dimpled like that. He said when they had the wheel mounted on the machine with a new tire(runflat) filling air to set the bead the sidewall being so stiff needed too much air pressure to seat it against the edge of the wheel and bang! big dimple created in the wheel. Theres a "cheater" they're supposed to use to fill one section of air at a time to eliminate this from happening. The shop is responsible.

Nope. They tend to underinflate tires when they install them new.

Yes, I'm sure. The car came with polished wheels, and I immediately traded them with new in the box OEM chrome wheels.

This is the second set of rear tires I've bought since then.

So it that's what happened, the wheel has been like that since I got the last new tires approximately 4 1/2 yrs ago. The Discount Tire guys called me to see it when they took the old tire off.

Did you friend say it could make FOUR spots like this? Not just one?

It can easily make more than one which I saw. So they hadn't tried to mount any new tires? They just called you to say what they found dismounting? I would think you'd have vibration if you were driving with all those bubbles. Hmmm

I have not been having any issue with the handling or vibration. Of course, I've only driven her about 800-900 miles since May, but 600 of that was a trip to Houston and back.

They did mount the new tire, and I drove home. But no interstate driving and only a few miles.

I assume you can, as big as they are, but I have not looked.

I'm surprised the wheel went back on over the rotor like that. I thought the fit was rather tight

You're a chick and you just explained it to us. I'm betting you hit some potholes that would've made a monster mudder on a redneck 4X4 go flat. Did BarnBabe help you service tire pressure???? I know I'm in trouble with you and BB now, but sorry, I couldn't resist!!!!
