There is a large group here in Jax that runs a charity food warehouse, it's called Second Harvest.....so one of the guy here in the hood, asks me to come with him to help pick up a load of food and drop it by his church for distribution, and so at the loading docks, there are these clowns with pickup trucks with tail gates down flat, and backing up stick shift trucks to the dock, and guys standing between the block wall and the trucks as they are backing up.....I about shit, one bad move and someone cut in 1/2 easy....stupid shit, and the head of SHarvest was there doing paperwork not paying any attention....

so Bob stops the truck I standing there ready to get the hand off, and he goes to climb into the truck bed, slips and all 260 lbs of him slams me into the loading dock wall, it was over a week before my ribs stopped hurting.....

I do no more of that, fuggetaboutit.....

You had to be there.....

I've hired and fired my share of people in my career, and I think that I can size someone up in seconds....I didn't say that they were all mentally deficient, but if they came to a job interview, and I was the interviewer, my assessment would have been that most would not be able to cut it...Lack of education, tact, and general speaking ability....Granted, I didn't talk to every customer, so my generalization may be broad, but it's pretty close, imo.

I have not done a soup kitchen, but I have done similar things.

In my experience there are a lot of people there who fit exactly that description. But it also seemed, at least to me, that there were an equal number who, if they cleaned up (bathe, haircut, clothing, alcohol) would be perfectly capable of handling a job...if they wanted to. They might not be "great" jobs, but they would be honest work.
