Default PSA Colonoscopy

I recently had my second in 20 years. Luckey due to genetics and others things they found nothing. Yes it's a bit embarrassing and the prep is shitty. Do it.

The day I had it I called an old friend who had not called me back. Apparently he had not been getting his. He just had his second surgery and was walking around with the bag to hold his shit until they could put his rectum back together.

I had another good family friend who I watch get eaten up by the cancer in his bowels.

Colon cancer is one of the most findable and preventable forms of cancer IF you do the screening. Do it or die.

Good advice! I've had 3 or 4 and while I dread the prep, I'm always glad I did it. BTW, you can cheat on the prep: Drink only about 60% of that dastardly liquid (although Crystal Light Cherry--it's clear-- and refrigeration make it easier to swallow) and take none of the pills to induce bowel movements--the liquid is sufficient. A can of chicken broth and a few drinks will get you through the night.

The first one showed two polyps, both removed and both benign, and the one last month was clear. Good to go for another 5 or 6 years.

I'm on the one to two year plan. FAP gene. Google it. Colon and duodenum removed watching for development of stomach cancer.

No family history here, but I had my first one last year. Nothing found, so next one is 5-7 years from now. It was no big deal, really. I didn't even find the prep to be that bad. Great way to lose five pounds in one day.

I have never gotten one, probably will not. There are thousands of things that can kill you, hundreds of different cancers that can kill you, so testing yourself for a handful of them seems like unproductive gambling. My Dad died of pancreatic cancer. No test for that. By the time you figure it out, you just go home to die.

Colon Cancer is easily found, Early treatment produces solid results and the survival rate is high IF caught sooner.

Same with Prostate cancer.

I think the recovery is funny! Everyone is laying there separated by curtains, waking from the sedative and farting out the yingyang!

They found 5 benign polyps in my 2007 and wanted me to do a 5-year follow-up. I wound up delaying until last month -- no polyps found.

I had a very cute young nurse tell me to pass wind and when I let out a blast she was happy about it.

She must be Gozars kin.

I also am on the 2-year plan. My maternal grandmother died of colon caner.

When my Doctor found this out he reviewed my chart and discovered that, at age 60, he had never ordered a colonoscopy. He immediately ordered one and before I had even recovered from the anesthetic had already scheduled me for the requisite surgery. It seems that four cancerous polyps were found in my colon requiring the removal of the last foot of it.

Ladies and Gentlemen, pay attention to this thread. If you are over 50 and have not had this examination I most strongly urge you to do so. If nothing is found you will have a five year respite before you have to do it again. On the other hand, if something is found it could save your life.

Due to my surgery last year at 48 my doc wanted me to have my first this year but for some reason my wife talked him in to waiting until january of next year when I will be 50. Possibly because she is my beneficiary.
