People who choose to live or vacation in the mountains tend to be more active. They ski, hike, golf, fish, raft. What do the do at the coast? Go to the beach, sit around and wait for their next meal.

Well then. The beach sounds like the perfect vacation spot for GrandsportC3!

Most beach town communities have plenty of outdoor activities. Including saltwater and freshwater fishing. Golf is huge in theses towns and they usually have multiple courses. Tennis and other court sports are popular in these coastal and resort communities. Water skiing is big. As is stand up paddle boarding and other water sports like kayak fishing, etc. And may of these communities have hiking and walking trails through state parks and preserves.

All well and good, but there is no denying that the closer you get to the coast, the fatter are the people. Just my personal observation.

I dunno. I went to Indianapolis, and most people seemed to be fat.

Actually there is denial. And while you are welcome to your personal observations, those observations are not necessarily the facts.

True, but my vast experience and keen observational skills usually lead me to a theory that is correct. Here we find an inverse relation between altitude and obesity. That is, the higher up you live, the less fat are your neighbors.

Well, I just think it's really cool that there are no obese people on this forum. We all seem to be a bunch of pretty fit old goats (and young ladies).

I’ve lost some weight recently and I’m very happy about it. As we get older there are so many complications that can come from being overweight.

If anyone can muster up the mental and psychological courage to eat just one meal a day(salad with broccoli, cheese, tomatoes, avocado- da works, and meat in the form of chicken, salmon, tuna, beef) it will reward you. Most nuts as a snack when you get desperate are cool. Also, drink a lot of coffee to ward off hunger pains. Hit the gym as often as you can, and keep your carb count way down. Watch your blood pressure.
Six day fast can help kick start the program, but that ain't easy.

I'm old, 5'10", currently 158 lbs. The highest in my life was around 180 or so.

But that doesn't mean I'm in good health.

Twenty some years ago I went out with a nurse for several years. She worked at the local VA and had been in every department, including geriatrics.

She said it's not a bad idea to have a little fat on you when you get older, because it could pull you through a serious problem that otherwise might kill you if you have no reserves to draw on.

Just one nurse's opinion, but I think there's some validity to it. My problem: I'm old and have no fat.

You say that like it's a bad thing.

Evidently, you have never been to Iowa or Nebraska. Some of the largest corn-fed women I have ever seen live there.

Probably also not been to Miami Beach or other upscale coastal towns where some of the most beautiful women inthe world are.

I believe there is truth in that statement. Here on the Southern Oregon Coast, you don't need to go out whale watching, just go to Walmart. There are so many McMonsters out here! That's why I live above the Tsunami Zone.
