We have 4 generations of "stuff" in the house, but the biggest culprit was the train table from the basement and old furniture that my mother won't/can't use when she moves. Not to mention the 1,000 CDs, hundreds of vinyl albums, 500 books, and yes, 20 year old bills that were never purged.

The best way to look at it is whomever the stuff belonged to, they go ttheir enjoyment out of it, the money is spent, it was entertainment/joy for them, it's over and done. I have zero interest in spending 1 second selling a ton (or in this case 6 tons) of "stuff" online.

I urge everyone that has kids and a house full of stuff to get rid of it now as best they can. My father passed away on august 13th and I've spent every weekend since sorting through family stuff dating back to the early 1900's.... it's mentally and physically draining. Oh, and all of this while working 12 hour days, to you know, keep my job lol

Me I just hate looking for stuff so keep stuff to a minimum.
MIL has boxes upon boxes and drawers stuffed with papers, newspapers, paperwork and god only know what else. Something important will be thrown out unfortunately as we will never be able to sort thru everything. Two people i their late 70s do not need 48 bath towel i told her so we boxed most up and she had a fit so I gave up. That's the last I try and help told them. Frankly I plan on avoiding their house when they pass and want of nothing they have. The wife will have a fit I'm sure when I decline to sort through all that stuff.

You hit the nail on the head, 75% of the effort was sorting through stuff that hadn't been touched in 15 years, including an attic full of "stuff" from my great grandparents. I gave up after awhile and just dumped everything. I would have been there for months.

And for those of you who don't have an appreciation for what a 20yard dumpster looks like: 1 empty 1 full. I filled 3 of these, each with 2-3 tons of stuff.
