Slippery argument, how many peoples lives would be saved if we took away guns> not going there.

You do understand that people were left to die because there are not enough resources to treat them, have you seen the obituaries in Italy? This is NOT the FLU, people do not die in these numbers in this short of time from any FLU we have seen since I was born.
The government doesn’t force people to get vaccinated or confine them to their house if they show any symptoms of the flu. They’re forcing stuff on us now that’s unprecedented in this country, to the point of destroying the economy for what might happen.

There are lots of reasons why a comparison between Italy and the U.S. is deeply flawed.

Cliffs for Raazor: We're grossly overreacting to lies, hype and fear from the media and politicians.
What I think some people here are missing, is more or less the entire point of both articles. Neither of them are an indictment of what our Health Care Industry in general, and our care providers in particular are doing. The point of both articles as I see it IS that our so-called "political leaders" are implementing some extreme measures to limit what we the people can do, when they have NO IDEA if what they are implementing is doing more harm than good.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, flattening the curve, and blah, blah, blah, I get it, and it would make sense except for the fact that our "cost benefit analysis" is short on data on both sides, and NO ONE involved in the decision process is looking at the cost side.

Here's a bit of reality from a career Finance guy: When this country goes into a recession, people die as a result. For a wide variety of reasons. Their health insurance becomes unaffordable, so they don't pay it, and they are not healthy enough or savvy enough to navigate the Medicaid system, and they die of treatable chronic problems. People can't afford to pay their heat, and freeze to death. People can't afford AC, and die of heat prostration. The reasons are legion, but the reality is that if you **** up the US economy, thousands upon thousands of people die as a result. This is exactly why ****heads like Bill Maher are despicable people, they are willing to knowingly have thousands of people die just to get "their" candidate in office.

To be clear, I am not promoting fear mongering or spreading of false information of the media. I however support social distancing.

Any of you have other suggestions to flatten the curve?

Is it the social distancing you are displeased with or other things in general?

That is my point exactly. We allow one of our two biggest adversaries manufacture so much of what we consume. Both essential and non-essential items. I will never agree with that. Then shit hits the fan and we can't ramp up manufacturing in our own country to make what we need. We asked for a shit storm and we got it.

Now for a lighter side of this subject.

Babies born in the coming months due to the self isolation will be know as the Corona generation. Girls will be salt and boys will be lime. They might even have that on their birth certificates.

Perspective is everything I suppose, as I think your data helps my position.

Let's take a look at what you just posted, shall we?

69,000 / 5,290,000 = 1.3% mortality rate. Basically what today's US data is suggesting, which is likely to go down now that testing has been expanded dramatically.

Quote:

Yes, about one fifth of the annual deaths they have been experiencing recently.

Do these things mean that was should do nothing? No. But do they justify ****ing up a hundred million people's lives (so far) and destroying the US economy? NO.

In other words, there is no data there, or in any other study I can find, to support your assertion that this bug is so dramatically different from other bugs that have been killing tens of thousands of Italians per year recently.
