Anyone ever have a bathtub refinished?
We just got one of ours redone. This is a one piece fiberglass tub and stall unit that had aged and needed refinishing. Color came out perfect, but the paintjob itself sucks! I'm talking everything from orange peal to a dry finish, guy even threw in a run! He was ready to take payment and leave, but I questioned the finish results and he says they can come back and do a cut and buff, which is now scheduled. Paint is too soft to do it today, that much I get, but wow, not impressed at all. We have another one scheduled, but that will hinge on this one being finished properly. So, anyone else ever done this? How were your results?
Oh yeah, it stinks in here now, too. Hopefully that doesn't last long |

I’m interested, too. We have a yellow tub in a bathroom built in the 70’s. That just has to go. I want to do a minimal freshening, but heard that those tubfitter outfits do sketchy work. Lots of complaints. So, maybe a refinish in a different color. Waiting to hear experiences.

I had a cast iron one refinished a few years ago. It came out looking like it was brand new.
Here's a picture. They refinished the tile around the tub also. I don't know how durable it was since I sold the condo shortly after this picture was taken. |

Selling the house is the main reason we are having this done. If this doesn't come out good Friday they won't be coming back to do the second one. Right now I'm not very convinced it will improve much. By the way, this is done pretty much the same as painting a car, which I have done once or 50 times, so I know how much effort it takes to repair a poor finish. Time will tell
The name of the place is Miracle Method. Don't know if they are just a local outfit or not. They do have good ratings though, so not sure if this was just a new guy or what |

I would have told them I'd pay them when it is DONE, not when it's half done. Or give them half and they collect the rest when they come back.

The run sucks, but the orange peel may have been planned for texture so that minor flaws are hidden.

The orange peel makes me think he used to work for GM. The run makes me think he worked for MAACO.

I lived in a house for 9 years that had a refinished tub. The prep work sucked, leaving an uneven looking finish inside the tub. BUT--it was durable and never failed. Like any paint job on any item, prep work is the key to the whole job.

Well, the manager of the place came this morning and was not surprised at our reaction to the job. Says they will come back and redo the whole job, and this time with a more experienced guy, maybe himself! Hoping this turns out well for us. Will report back when done
