Deej, I wish you well and happy man, but seriously, I have to toss in with JC on this one....too much boat.....

BUT having said that, no matter WHAT you buy, I want to bring my wife along for a drive.....figger on the lake or St. Johns river.....years ago she got sick on a 28' Cris Craft out on the ocean....actually tossed up overside, hell the little kid won't even go on ANY boat now.....so we have to humor her.....

Nice toy

I checked out fuel consumption for a 38' cigarette with twin big blocks, according to this article Cigarette*38 Top Gun (2011-)* Reviews, performance, compare, price, warranty, specs,Reports,Specifications Layout, video | BoatTEST.com

Best Fuel Consumption is at WOT

Interestingly, the 38 in our test 10 years ago got its best fuel consumption at WOT -- .85 mpg., which is not bad, all things considered. Our test of the 42 Cigarette powered by the same engines got about the same mpg and was also most efficient at the top end. In offshore racing that is exactly how you want the engine to be set up -- maximum fuel efficiency at WOT so that you have a chance of finishing the race on one load of fuel.

Again, all of this is old news based on an engines and models that we tested in 2011, both of which are no longer in production. Hopefully, we will be asked to test the new boats sometime in the future.

The Cessna 172N (1978 Model) I fly in daily with an engine upgrade (Lycoming O-360) burns about 12 gallons per hour full rich at cruise (2250-2300 RPM). Roughly a 360 cubic inch air cooled 4 cylinder, 180 horsepower. Carbureted with a climb prop.

Not exactly the same, just sayin...

Beat me to it. And nobody spends much time "cruising" in a 502 cid twin I/O boat.

When gas was $1/gal and dock gas was $1.25, I would rock that for a Summer before selling it.

So what would that be, around 50 gal/hr?

50gal @ $ 4/gal = $ 200/hr

That's around $ 600 for a 3 hour short day of play. Now defray that amongst 5 people and that's not actually horrible. As a DIY undertaking, however, yeah, kinda pricey.

What causes this expensive use of fuel? I'm used to bass boats being economical.

Marine fuel is an extra 25-40% over land based fuel. ( no alcohol and they know they have you by the short and curlies )

I have a 24' pontoon boat

with a 9.9 hp Mercury four stroke "kicker".

The 2-1/2 gallon tank will last 10-12 hours while trolling ( just about idle)

The 115 Merc next to it drinks gas by the bucket

When was the last time thatching saw water? Being an 82 I bet there is some soft spots in the hull. I'd have that thing gone thorough inspection. Honestly I'd stay away from that boat

Had dinner with two very seasoned boat captains tonight and showed them this thread.

My 1 mpg estimate was optimistic.

Neither of them thought the boat would get more than half a mile per gallon at any speed.
