Washington Post has some video taken near the shootout HERE.
Lots of automatic weapons fire, but you can't really tell who's doing the shooting.

I'm starting to think the guy didn't really have much of a plan after all.

I believe he is dead, I'm just surprised the authorities managed to locate so soon. I would have thought he was somewhere well in the South Pacific by now.

I don't think he wanted to run away and live. I think he wanted them to believe he had, only to strike again later and disappear again for a while.

I think he had a plan... I just don't think he figured out a plan B when his truck broke. Seems like that's where the wheels came of (pardon the pun). Until then, they were looking in downtown LA and San Diego thinking he was going South. They didn't have a clue he was in Big Bear until they found the truck.
