What if it's not the bulb but instead a short in the electrical system of the car??? What if all of a sudden the car becomes self-aware due to crossed circuits while you're driving down the road and it stops itself and ejects you into the middle of a busy highway??? Imagine the horror as your body is crushed by an 18-wheeler carrying a load of frozen McDonalds patties, left in the middle of the road like common road-kill.

Or, yeah, the bulb may have burned out...

The complete unit drops down. The bulb is replaced from the back. Any of those bulbs could have been sitting around for years before installation.
