One of the best banks in America. If you are a good customer, they treat you great. Sure, there are pleny to mix ups in takeovers, but I liked them so much, I have been buying their stock for years.
The old days of sleepy banks with Mildred behind the counter letting you pretty much walk all over them with your accounts are over....its a business, their branches are called "stores" and like any company they make some mistakes, but if you aren't in the crowd whining about fees, they treat you like royalty. |

When I refi'd I was glad it went to WF and away from GMAC. One thing I'd wanted to do was setup my mortgage to pay half every two weeks. GMAC wanted to charge me to do this, when I logged into WF site to setup my mortgage payment the first time, they offer it for free.
Which reminds me...I still need to setup the pay every two weeks option... |

I wish I was...but they had a setup fee to begin with, and IIRC, a monthly service charge.

I was just informed my Wachovia Checking account that rolled into Wells Fargo will now be assess a $5 per month fee unless I open and use a savings account with them.
Looks like I'm switching banks sooner than I wanted. Can anybody tell me about Amegy Bank? |

Yeah, they tried to charge me fees for a account that was close also. When my local was taken over by Norwest one of the things that stopped was the ability for me to deposit a small portion of my check each payday into a separate savings account. So I went down and drew the little cash I had in that account out and closed the account.
Well when Wells Fargo took over they saw this account with no money in it (apparently Norwest never closed it or just switched it to inactive) and started charging me $10.00 a month service charge for having less than $1000.00 in the account. I kept getting mail from them which I never opened because I was no longer their customer. Then one day I get a call from a collection agency saying I owed Wells Fargo $110.00 + late charges and service fees of another $275.00. I said "WTF are you talking about, I don't have a loan at WF!" They said this is for past due service charges on your account. I said, "Well F you and hung up." I then went down to branch and asked to speak to the accounts manager. After about 20 minutes this over-dressed 50 year old Stepford wife walked out. I told her what was up, she said it was a policy, I said I have a document showing that my account was closed by Norwest, then I showed it to her. Then she apologized and said she'd "reimburse me the money." I told her I never had the money so all I want is the account closed and the the credit agencies contacted. Plus call off the loan collectors. I also wanted proof that the credit agencies had been called. It took them about 4 or 5 months to finally come through with what I requested. Maybe I should be mad at Norwest, but it was the smary attitude of the Accounts manager until I showed her the receipt showing the account was closed, that got to me. |

Why should I be strong armed into doing business with somebody or in a manner in which I don't want to?
Changing to the new checking & savings "package" will apparently require a new checking number anyways...so since I have to reset all of my bill pays, I might as well change to a bank that wants my business. |

I know it's a regional bank, but with the internet you can still bank with them - TD Bank
I've been with them since the early 90's when they were Commerce Bank, NA and never pay an ATM surcharge (they reimburse foreign ATM surcharges) , excellent service both in person and on the phone. They have expanded in recent months by buying Carolina Mercantile . ATM/Store Locator |
